Seeking an experienced Senior Strategic Advisor opportunity at Swinburne University

About the Role We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Strategic Advisor to join Swinburne University. Working closely with the Vice‑President, External Engagement (VP EE), the Senior Strategic Advisor will oversee delivery of strategic projects aligned with Swinburne’s bold new strategy

and ensure the delivery of the expected outcomes within budget and by deadlines.

The Senior Strategic Advisor is also responsible for providing the VP EE with advice on a range of issues and strategies and will focus on managing internal and external executive relations, particularly with organisations and bodies where the VP EE has an active role.

The role requires a comprehensive understanding of the international education sector, and broad experience in higher education and vocational education in Australia. It will be pivotal in ensuring the cohesive functioning across the five divisions within EE: Future Students and Marketing, Global Engagement, Indigenous Engagement, Communications and Media, and Advancement.

About You

Lead and manage strategic projects, reviews, and related activities at the direction of the VP EE and provide high‑level analysis and advice on outcomes.

Drive cross‑functional collaboration to ensure seamless integration and alignment of strategic projects within the broader strategic objectives of the University, identifying and addressing potential risks and dependencies to enhance project outcomes.

Identify emerging trends, challenges, and opportunities in higher education and the broader external environment, providing foresight and strategic recommendations to inform long‑term planning and positioning of the Portfolio and the University.

Undertake highly complex research and reviews on matters relating to the Portfolio and the University.

Provide detailed advice, analysis, business cases, presentations, and reports to the VP EE, the Executive Group, Vice‑Chancellor’s Advisory Group, Academic Senate, and University Council when appropriate.

Participate in and contribute to developing effective processes and practices for the administration and management of complex issues, encompassing industry collaboration, report writing, researching, liaison, and reporting.

Qualifications A postgraduate degree in a relevant discipline, and/or extensive equivalent professional experience and training in a large and complex organisation.
