Job Description
Are you a senior security leader who thrives in complex, high-risk operational environments? This newly created role offers the chance to build a specialist security standards function from the ground up and shape the protective security posture for a major state-wide operational organisation.
About the Role
You will lead a newly established Security Standards Unit responsible for setting direction, building capability and delivering frameworks that integrate electronic, physical and procedural security. This work directly supports the safe and secure operation of high-security facilities across Queensland. This is a rare opportunity to influence system-wide security maturity, drive cyber uplift for Operational Technology environments and lead the development of critical policies, standards and design guidelines for future infrastructure.
What you’ll be doing: Leadership and Strategy
Build and lead a high-performing team focused on safety, security and operational assurance
Develop security strategies, policies and frameworks that unify physical, electronic and procedural security
Guide OT cyber uplift and lead annual cyber security attestations
Security Standards and Governance
Create Protective Security Policy aligned to national and state frameworks
Establish infrastructure design standards for custodial and community assets
Oversee risk management frameworks, system performance auditing and threat/incident response processes
Technical Delivery
Provide oversight of electronic security systems, performance, maintenance schedules and lifecycle planning
Collaborate with technology, infrastructure and operations teams on upgrades, new builds, risk mitigation and system integrity
Represent the organisation in senior working groups to influence emerging technology, system changes and future requirements
Continuous Improvement
Drive innovation, uplift and contemporary practices across physical, electronic and cyber security
Build organisational awareness of system protocols, compliance expectations and secure system use
About you
You bring proven leadership experience from a high-risk, high-security operational environment such as corrections, defence, transport, critical infrastructure, aviation or similar. You are confident building new functions, establishing frameworks and leading multidisciplinary teams.
You will also have
Deep experience with complex electronic security systems in high security settings
Strong governance, policy development and standards creation experience
Understanding of OT cyber security requirements and frameworks such as ISO 27001 and IS18
Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills up to executive level
Experience delivering infrastructure or technology projects within regulated environments
Ability to influence, negotiate and drive change across diverse stakeholders
Qualifications in engineering, cyber, electronics or project management are beneficial but not essential.
Why this role matters
You will play a key part in lifting operational security maturity across a critical public-safety organisation, shaping future infrastructure, and embedding a strong security culture across frontline operational environments.
