Job Description

The Head of Technology Strategy at Avant is a senior leadership role within Group Solutions, reporting to the Chief Solutions and Data Officer (CSDO). This role sits at the intersection of strategy, commercial management, architecture, risk, and innovation, ensuring the division delivers sustainable value to Avant Mutual and its members.

As a key enabler across Group Solutions, you will operate in a hybrid capacity - providing Chief of Staff support to the CSDO while leading strategic, commercial and operational coordination across the division. You will drive alignment across pillars, oversee financial planning and reporting and shape the organisation’s approach to emerging technologies.

This role requires a strategic thinker with strong commercial acumen, exceptional stakeholder management skills and the ability to operate effectively within a complex, regulated environment.

Key Accountabilities Strategic Leadership & Executive Reporting

Lead and coordinate divisional reporting, including executive, Board, and management reports.

Provide strategic insights and performance analysis to support decision‑making at the highest levels.

Commercial, Architecture, Risk & Strategy Leadership

Lead the commercial, enterprise architecture, risk, and strategic capabilities for Group Solutions.

Ensure alignment between technology investment, risk appetite, and organisational strategy.

Chief of Staff to the CSDO

Act as a trusted advisor and strategic partner to the CSDO.

Support priority setting, executive communications, and divisional governance.

Financial Planning & Budget Management

Coordinate annual budgeting and forecasting processes for Group Solutions, including 3+9 and 6+6 revisions.

Partner with Finance Business Partners to ensure disciplined financial management and transparency.

Divisional Initiative Coordination

Oversee and coordinate key initiatives within your pillar and across Group Solutions.

Drive consistency, accountability and effective execution in a matrix environment.

Emerging Technology & Innovation

Lead the exploration, evaluation and adoption of emerging technologies (e.g. AI).

Balance innovation with regulatory compliance and risk management considerations.

Experience required

4 – 6 years’ experience in technology strategy, enterprise architecture or transformation leadership roles.

Demonstrated experience in executive reporting and Board‑level communication.

Proven track record in managing technology budgets and financial planning processes.

Experience coordinating complex, cross‑functional initiatives in a matrixed environment.

Experience within financial services, insurance, mutual or healthcare sectors.

Understanding of regulated industry environments, particularly financial services.

Familiarity with APRA prudential standards, including CPS 230.

Knowledge of commercial management in technology and/or financial services.

Key Skills

Strong commercial acumen, including vendor management, contract negotiation and investment analysis.

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distil complex information for diverse audiences.

Advanced stakeholder management and influencing capability across all organisational levels.

Sound understanding of enterprise architecture principles and technology risk management.

Familiarity with emerging technologies, particularly AI and machine learning and their practical business applications.

Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.

Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (particularly Excel).

Data analysis, reporting, and financial modelling capability.

Process documentation and continuous improvement mindset.

Strong contract interpretation and analysis skills.
