The Victorian Convention & Event Trust (VCET) is a statutory authority responsible for managing and promoting Victoria’s premier business events. VCET oversees the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) and Nyaal Banyul - Geelong Convention and Event Centre, playing a critical role in driving economic and social outcomes for Victoria through world‑class business events.
As the VCET continues to build momentum in a revitalised events market, they are seeking a Senior Manager, Business Development to drive sustained sales growth and deliver long‑term commercial outcomes. Reporting to the Chief Sales & Customer Experience Officer, the role will lead a small team to develop and operationalise sales strategy, cultivate new client relationships and deliver new opportunities across conferences, exhibitions and major business events – strengthening Victoria’s position as a globally recognised destination across a range of key market and economic segments.
About the role
You will lead business development activity to grow a strong pipeline to secure high‑value events for MCEC and Nyaal Banyul that are aligned to the organisation's key strategic outcomes. The role also oversees the Victorian Ambassador Network (VAN) – a VCET‑hosted program that utilises prominent Victorian leaders to secure major international business events for the state.
You will
Execute a business development strategy that delivers against revenue and economic impact targets
Identify and qualify new opportunities across domestic and international markets
Provide strong leadership and coaching to support high performance, accountability and collaboration across the team
Build trusted, long‑term relationships with key decision makers across relevant associations, corporates, event owners and industry partners
About you
You will be a commercially minded sales leader with experience in winning and growing high‑value accounts in the business events space. You will bring:
Demonstrated success in business development and sales leadership in a customer‑driven environment – business events, venues, tourism, hospitality, major projects or services will be highly regarded
Experience building a highly qualified sales pipeline and influencing senior stakeholders
The capability to lead, coach and motivate a business development team, balancing strategic thinking with hands‑on execution
Alignment to a purpose‑led culture and motivated by making a meaningful contribution to the community
