Legal Counsel – Workplace Health & Safety

Our client, a large organisation with significant operations, is seeking a new Legal Counsel to join the established inhouse legal team. Our client offers exceptional quality of work and on‑going career development opportunities.

The successful candidate will partner with the business to assist in the making of well‑informed and considered decisions in workplace health and safety. This is both an operational and strategic role. Further, you will enjoy both front‑end advisory, training, compliance and governance work as well as managing legal risk and advising on potential investigations, disputes and prosecutions.

Our client’s inhouse legal team is well supported by external lawyers and you will also benefit from working alongside experienced in‑house practitioners across a broad range of specialisations.

Further, the in‑house legal team is sophisticated and highly regarded across the organisation. You will be part of a collegiate and collaborative environment.

About you This role calls for a lawyer with proven experience in workplace health & safety from private practice or in‑house environment. You will have a positive attitude, flexibility and a demonstrated ability to build relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders. You demonstrate an ability to apply judgement and constructive thinking and excellent time management skills. You have the capacity to work collaboratively as well as independently. Candidates who work as specialists in the workplace health & safety space should apply, as should broader workplace relations lawyer who offer some proven health and safety experience.

It is essential that you hold a law degree and have an Australian or New Zealand practising certificate.
