Job Description The Senior Claims Consultant is a specialist role within TAL’s Direct Claims team, responsible for managing a portfolio of high‑value, underwritten TPD claims. You will apply your strong technical expertise and knowledge of the Insurance Contracts Act to navigate complex arrangements and deliver quality outcomes for members.

This role also provides the opportunity to act as a mentor and escalation point, contributing to capability uplift, embedding best practice, and shaping the growth of this strategically important team.

In this role you will:

Manage a portfolio of complex life insurance claims

Apply strong knowledge of the Insurance Contracts Act and navigate additional cover complexities.

Collaborate with technical experts and business partners to support sound, high‑quality decision‑making.

Engage confidently with claimants, legal, trustees, and internal stakeholders, ensuring a professional and empathetic approach to complex cases.

Act as a mentor and escalation point, coaching consultants and building capability across the team.

Qualifications

Proven experience as a Claims Consultant within life insurance, looking to step up into a Senior role.

Proven experience as a Senior within life insurance.

Exposure to both retail and group insurance claims (or retail would be highly desirable).

Strong understanding of insurance legislation and frameworks (e.g. Insurance Contracts Act).

Background in law or allied health (e.g. OT) is highly regarded.

Strong analytical skills, resilience, and confidence managing complex and sensitive claims.
