General Manager Technology Services
ABN Group, one of Western Australia's largest residential building groups with a multi-billion dollar annual revenue, is seeking a strategic General Manager Technology Services to lead infrastructure modernisation and operational excellence across their diverse business portfolio. Established in Perth in 1978, ABN Group operates 17 businesses spanning construction, land development, building materials supply and property-related services, employing approximately 1,900 people and partnering with over 3,000 contractors nationwide. In year two of comprehensive transformation, ABN Group is modernising its infrastructure through Microsoft-centric architecture and Azure cloud migration whilst maintaining operational stability across 24/7 production and engineering environments. The Technology Services division holds accountability for vendor contracts, infrastructure support, telecommunications, networks and service delivery across the Group's diverse business units.
The Leadership Opportunity
Reporting directly to Chief Information Officer, you will be the senior technology leader based in Perth, managing a team of four direct reports and 30+ indirect reports distributed across Perth and Melbourne. With annual budget accountability of $30-40 million, you will balance transformation investment with operational excellence whilst engaging regularly with executive stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Lead technology infrastructure operations: servers, compute, storage, cloud platforms, databases
Drive migration from on-premise infrastructure to Azure cloud environments
Manage all vendor contracts and service provider relationships
Oversee telecommunications, networks, end-user computing and service desk operations
Enhance ITIL-based service management frameworks and operational governance
Champion contemporary delivery practices, automation, and continuous improvement
Ensure 24/7 operational stability, security, and resilience across production and engineering environments
Provide strategic technology advice and executive reporting to leadership and board
Essential Requirements
The ideal candidate will possess proven technology leadership experience with demonstrated commercial acumen in vendor management, contract negotiation and significant budget accountability.
Extensive experience in infrastructure operations and cloud strategy execution
Strong understanding of ITIL service management and 24/7 operations environments
Expertise in cloud migration initiatives and infrastructure modernisation
Vendor and commercial management capability with budget accountability
Calm, level-headed approach to complex problem-solving under pressure
Engaging personality that builds trust across technical and business stakeholders
Strong business partnering capability with executive leadership and board members
Ability to champion contemporary ways of working and drive operational efficiencies
Highly Regarded
Experience in construction, property development or complex multi-business environments
Familiarity with DevOps and CI/CD practices
Experience with hybrid cloud environments and legacy system integration
