Are you a senior legal professional with a passion for building and motivating teams?
An exciting opportunity is available as a Managing Lawyer within the Digital & Platforms stream of our Department of Customer Service (DCS) LegalDivision.
The DCS Legal team supports a range of portfolio business clients including ServiceNSW, Digital NSW, Government Technology Platforms and Office of AI.
Reporting to an Assistant General Counsel, our Managing Lawyers in Digital & Platforms lead and manage a team of lawyers providing expert legalservices on a broad range of technology and digital projects that support the agency's strategic and operational priorities.
You will be working in a dynamic, agile environment applying your legal subjectmatter expertise across diverse ICT, digital, and digital transformation initiatives, projects and transactions, including whole of government projects and inter-agency initiatives.
You will have carriage of various ICT, digital, and digital commercial matters across the NSW Government representing Legal Division in the provision of independent, accurate, timely and expert legal services.
You will also lead a small team providing legal advice and services in all aspects of commercial law, policy and procurement related to digital and technology projects.
The professional in this role will need to:
Provide operational management of a team of up to 4 lawyers, sharing expertise and insight fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous development.
Provide strategic, pragmatic, focused and accountable specialist legal advice and strategy across a range of ICT, digital and technology projects.
Confidently lead, conduct, and support complex commercial negotiations to ensure compliance with legislative and regulatory requirements and successful delivery of outcomes for major projects.
Advise, draft, review, and negotiate a range of documents and agreements including for software acquisition/licensing, product development, intellectual property in information technology, digital transformation, and cloud service delivery.
Be adept at working with a variety of stakeholders to interpret and distil complex legal issues in the preparation of contractual and other documentation to ensure that statutory, ethical, probity and other legal obligations are properly addressed.
About you:
You are admitted as a legal practitioner of the Supreme Court of New South Wales and hold or, be eligible to hold a current practising certificate as a solicitor.
You have a minimum of 7 years relevant post qualification experience in two or more of the following areas in either private, in-house corporate or government practice: Digital and Technology law - Corporate and Commercial law. - Intellectual Property (IP) law
You have advanced analytical, lateral thinking and problem-solving skills, including an ability to apply legal principles in a practical way.
You are a motivated and effective communicator with great initiative. You can work with diverse clients, other lawyers, and a proven ability to work collaboratively and flexibly with key stakeholders across all levels to support optimal delivery outcomes.
You are a client focussed team player with great initiative, who thrives managing competing deadlines and priorities in a fast paced and dynamic environment.
You are experienced at creating and fostering high-performing teams.
