Job Description

The Australian Digital Health Agency leads the national effort to digitally enable Australia’s health system. We support the delivery of person-centred, connected healthcare through the development and adoption of digital health services and systems. Our work includes managing My Health Record, Electronic Prescriptions, and the My Health App, ensuring a healthier future for all Australians through connected healthcare.

About the Role As Director, Privacy, you’ll lead the Agency’s privacy strategy and frameworks, ensuring compliance and setting the standard for best practice. Reporting to the General Counsel, you’ll manage a high-performing, geographically dispersed team and oversee the Agency’s Privacy Management Plan under the Australian Government Agencies Privacy Code.

You’ll provide expert advice on complex privacy matters, anticipate risks, and craft innovative solutions that influence decision-making at the highest level. Acting as Privacy Officer and supporting the General Counsel as Privacy Champion, you’ll build strong partnerships—including with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner—while safeguarding Australians’ health information in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.

Skills and experience (essential criteria) To succeed in this role, you will bring:

Deep knowledge of privacy legislation, policy and frameworks.

Proven leadership experience managing complex privacy issues in government.

Strong strategic thinking, problem-solving, and stakeholder engagement skills.

Ability to work autonomously and make impactful decisions.

Experience in government or regulated environments, with an understanding of public sector values.

Adaptability and initiative to thrive in a dynamic, evolving environment.

Australian citizenship is a mandatory eligibility requirement. Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain both a national police clearance and a Negative Vet 1 security clearance, with the capacity to attain a higher-level clearance if required by the Agency.

Salary This role offers between $143,753 - $170,194 plus 15.4% superannuation depending on skills and experience.

Order of Merit Applicants rated as suitable will be placed in a merit pool that may be used to fill similar ongoing or non-ongoing positions throughout the Agency for up to 18 months.
