This pool aims to fill current vacancies (FTE) for permanent or fixed term appointments.
Employment Types: Full Time, Part Time, and Sessional with the possibility of extension(s).
*The above salary is as per WA Health System Medical Practitioners AMA Industrial Agreement 2024 (inclusive of base salary, PD allowance and 12% superannuation). This is subject to the assessment of qualifications, clinical skills and years of practice.
About Mental Health Department
A major transformation is underway at Geraldton Health Campus, and we’re inviting passionate Consultant Psychiatrists to be part of something extraordinary. Supported by a $ million redevelopment the campus is evolving into a centre of excellence for regional healthcare. Brand-new facilities including an Intensive Care Unit, Emergency Department and a Mental Health inpatient Unit are opening soon.
The inpatient unit will comprise of
15 beds , including
4 PICU beds , co-located with the Community Mental Health Clinic to enhance integrated models of care and continuity for patients.
The Midwest Mental Health and Community Alcohol and Drug Service works collaboratively across inpatient and community settings to deliver specialist care. Services include pharmacological, behavioural and therapeutic interventions, delivered through a strong multidisciplinary approach.
The medical team currently consists of a Director of Clinical Services – Mental Health, seven Consultant Psychiatrists, seven Trainee Registrars and Resident Medical Officers, and two interns, fostering a supportive and collegial peer environment.
There is a strong commitment to education, training, and research, supported by ongoing projects, established links with the local Rural Clinical School and universities, and a well-developed Rural Psychiatry Training Pathway that supports a growing workforce strategy. Caseloads and on‑call requirements are very manageable, supporting a healthy work–life balance.
Our patients come from diverse rural and regional communities, each bringing unique experiences and challenges. This diversity enriches clinical practice and provides opportunities to develop a broad range of skills through innovative treatment approaches, strong support services, and collaborative multidisciplinary care.
About The Roles
In this role you will be a value member of the team and will be responsible for:
Provision of clinical assessment and psychiatric treatment for adults (inclusive of ECT) in the community and inpatient setting.
Provide expert leadership, advice, and consultation to GPs, healthcare professionals, service providers, and carers across the region.
Build strong partnerships with key stakeholders, including the Chief Psychiatrist and local GPs, to deliver seamless, coordinated care.
Contribute to the development of mental health services and participate in planning, implementation, and evaluation processes.

The Successful Candidates Will:
Be eligible for registration by the Medical Board of Australia as a specialist in psychiatry.
Have Fellowship, or be eligible for fellowship, of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists or approved equivalent.
Have extensive clinical experience in general mental health.
To be eligible for a permanent appointment to the Western Australian public sector, it is essential that you are an Australian citizen or hold permanent residency status in Australia.
About the Pool and Appointment
This pool accepts applications from RANZCP Trainees who are in their penultimate year of training and have completed all training requirements. This is an active recruitment pool which will be assessed on a regular basis by the panel to fill both immediate vacant positions and future vacancies.
