Job Description
The General Manager is responsible for installing financial and operational predictability across the business, delivering consistent net profit margins, strong cashflow discipline, structured systems, and high-performance leadership.
This role exists to build a stable, scalable, well-run construction business that operates independently of daily founder involvement. The GM owns operations, commercial performance, and team accountability.
Key Responsibilities
· Full P&L ownership.
· Implement and manage 13-week rolling cashflow forecasts.
· Install live job margin tracking dashboards.
· Enforce estimating discipline and job selection criteria.
· Oversee variations recovery and contract discipline.
· Conduct post-job financial reviews.
2. Operational Excellence
· Fully embed Buildertrend (or equivalent system) across all projects.
· Develop and implement SOPs for estimating, project handover, QA & compliance, variations, and defects management.
· Improve labour productivity and reduce rework.
· Establish structured weekly operational reporting.
· Lead Project Managers, Estimating, and Site Leadership.
· Install performance management framework.
· Identify and address underperformance.
· Improve hiring batting average.
· Build a disciplined, accountable leadership culture aligned to company core values.
4. Strategic Support
· Support the Founder in defining growth pathways.
· Assess revenue mix and margin quality.
· Develop scalable division models (e.g., structural concrete, landscaping).
· Create a 3-year operational roadmap.
· Reduce founder operational involvement by 60%+ within 12 months.
Required Experience
· 7+ years in senior construction leadership.
· Demonstrated P&L ownership ($5M+ revenue minimum).
· Experience improving margin performance.
· Strong estimating and commercial understanding.
· Proven track record implementing systems and structure.
· Experience managing multiple PMs and site teams.
· Experience removing or redeploying underperformers.
