Job Description
The Australian Maritime and Fisheries Academy
Founded in 1997 as an industry-managed education centre for the fishing and seafood industries, the organisation has developed to its current status as
The Australian Maritime and Fisheries Academy (AMFA)
encompassing a significantly wider presence in the maritime sector. One of only two industry owned and operated maritime, seafood and fishing industry training organisations in the Southern Hemisphere, AMFA is a recognised leader in Australia and the Asia Pacific region for innovative, focused and relevant fisheries advisory, management and training services. The Academy delivers nationally accredited training programs and short courses and customised programs that meet specific client and industry requirements. Graduates enjoy a wide range of career options in the broad maritime and fisheries industries, together with opportunities across oil and gas, tourism, government and tertiary sectors.
The founding, long-standing and highly respected CEO, Robert Miller, will transition from his position to join the Board, creating a unique opportunity for a talented executive to build on his positive legacy and lead the Academy through its next exciting chapter. Reporting to and working closely with a highly accomplished and skilled Board, the CEO will lead the strategic direction, provide effective management and steward the growth, innovation and sustainability of the organisation. Key areas of responsibility will include:
develop, implement and monitor strategic plans driving innovation in training and addressing emerging industry needs;
ensure long-term financial sustainability through effective resource planning, risk management and business development;
inspire, develop and lead high performing, collaborative and accountable teams delivering a strong and contemporary workplace culture;
build and sustain strong stakeholder relationships across government, industry and the community promoting the Academy’s profile and reputation in South Australia and beyond.
Applications are encouraged from appropriately qualified and experienced executives with a track record of success in comparably complex, regulatory driven environments. Knowledge of the vocational education/RTO sector will be an advantage but is not a pre-requisite. A best-practice mindset, strategic business management capability and professional credibility are sought to achieve continuity of the Academy’s sphere of influence and profile. Energy, strength of character, authenticity and an engaging communication and influencing style are important qualities for success.
Make an enquiry to explore this unique leadership role in a vital training organisation leading the way in increasing industry standards and career opportunities.
