The Royal Melbourne Hospital is one of Australia’s leading public healthcare providers. We are looking for a passionate and dedicated individual to join The Royal Melbourne Hospital as an Emergency Surgery & Trauma Fellow. This is a 12-month Full Time Fixed Term position commencing 2 February 2026.
The Royal Melbourne Hospital (RMH) is one of Victoria’s largest hospitals, providing a comprehensive range of health services and collaborating with the Melbourne Biomedical Precinct to advance research and clinical care.
The RMH Trauma – Emergency General Surgery (EGS) Service was established in 2011 and is one of the busiest units at RMH. The trauma service manages approximately 4500 admissions annually, including over 1000 with multiple severe injuries.
In 2019 RMH was verified as a Level 1 trauma service and the Trauma Fellowship has been accredited as an education and training program in trauma surgery. The Trauma Fellowship provides post-fellowship education and training opportunities related to Trauma Surgery.
The Role
The fellowship position in Trauma & Emergency General Surgery offers an excellent opportunity to gain experience in acute care surgery within a supportive and supervised environment.
Responsibilities
Work as a member of the Emergency General Surgical service and Trauma Service within the Department of General Surgical Specialties, participating in patient care, teaching, education and clinical research.
Participate in a range of Specialist General Surgery activities commensurate with a tertiary referral centre and Level One Trauma Service.
About You
Registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA) or eligibility for registration for international medical graduates.
MBBS or equivalent tertiary qualification.
F.R.A.C.S or equivalent in General Surgery.
Early Management of Severe Trauma (EMST) course completion.
Ability to work in a team and well-developed communication and presentation skills.
