Location Gippsland – various; either Morwell or Bairnsdale (Gunaikurnai Country). Relocation support available.

Salary and Benefits Full time ongoing (part-time considered). Salary range: $113,668 – $131,153 (pro rata), plus super, salary packaging up to $15,900. Hybrid Work From Home & office model.

About the Role We are seeking a Deputy Managing Lawyer to lead a team focused on criminal law and family violence matters. You will be responsible for providing expert legal advice and advocacy while supervising and mentoring junior lawyers, and for delivering high‑quality legal services to vulnerable clients.

Responsibilities

Lead and manage a diverse legal team.

Provide expert legal advice and advocacy in criminal law and family violence cases.

Supervise and mentor junior lawyers, enhancing their professional growth.

Deliver high‑quality legal services to vulnerable clients.

Participate in community outreach across the region.

Qualifications

A current Australian practising certificate entitling you to practice in Victoria as a government legal practitioner (mandatory).

Proven ability to develop, motivate, and manage a diverse team effectively.

Substantial experience in criminal law and ability to handle complex legal matters as a senior lawyer.

Experience in supervising and mentoring staff.

Excellent communication skills to engage with a diverse range of stakeholders, including clients from disadvantaged backgrounds.
