Job Description
A Commonwealth legal branch is seeking an experienced legislation lawyer to support legislative development and reform activities. This opportunity is suited to a senior lawyer with strong technical expertise in drafting and parliamentary processes.
The role sites within legal teams legislative and training branch, and will you see you provide support to several high-profile legislative development projects.
The term runs until 30 June 2026. A security clearance is required. Immediate start is possible. Package expectations are around $250,000 – $280,000 package on a converted rate.
Key Responsibilities
Preparing high-quality drafting instructions
Drafting and reviewing Explanatory Memoranda and Explanatory Statements
Supporting legislative processes and responding to parliamentary and committee scrutiny
Providing clear, timely legal advice in a fast-paced environment
About You
5+ years PAE, ideally with private practice experience.
Demonstrated experience in primary and subordinate legislation, including end-to-end drafting processes.
Strong attention to detail and ability to work to tight timeframes.
