Job Description
Are you ready to lead a profitable, respected education and services organisation into its next phase of disciplined growth?
A well-established, market-leading organisation operating nationally within the real estate sector is seeking a dynamic, commercially minded and growth-led General Manager to lead the business through its next chapter of scale.
The business has been operating successfully for over two decades, with a strong brand, loyal client base, and consistent profitability. As part of this expansion, the CEO / Founder will remain actively engaged in industry relationships, she will work across strategic initiatives and thought leadership, while empowering the executive team to lead the business.
This role is designed for an executive who wants real ownership — with clear authority, defined decision‑making lanes, and a Founder‑CEO who supports the direction rather than stepping in to run the business.
This is not a turnaround role. This is a scale role.
About the Business
This organisation is a trusted, boutique partner to the real estate industry, delivering high‑impact education, consulting, and outsourced services to clients across Australia.
The business model combines:
High‑value advisory and training programmes
A strong national client base
A reputation for substance, credibility, and results
Headquartered in Sydney, the business operates nationally and is recognised for lifting standards across the profession.
The business is supported by an experienced and highly capable operations function, providing a strong platform for the General Manager (GM) to focus on leadership, growth, and strategic execution.
The Role
As GM, you will lead through clarity, accountability, and strong executive alignment — enabling the team to execute with confidence, ownership, and discipline.
Working in close partnership with the Founder‑CEO and Board, you will be responsible for executing company strategy, setting direction, prioritising initiatives, and driving performance across the organisation.
While this role carries clear accountability, the expectation is that the GM will move quickly to understand the business, its people, and its operating rhythm before making material changes. Early success in this role comes from building trust, diagnosing what matters, and acting decisively on clear priorities — not from wholesale disruption.
This role exists to ensure the business continues to scale through clear leadership, strong operational capability, and well‑defined accountability, while leveraging the Founder‑CEO strategically where appropriate.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
Translate vision into clear, executable strategy with board support
Align multiple business units under a unified operating model
Set priorities, sequencing, and pace for sustainable growth
Growth & Business Development
Lead the execution of the growth agenda, setting a clear pipeline strategy and driving execution with urgency and discipline
Personally lean into key opportunities, relationships, and decisions to build momentum and convert opportunity into revenue
Prioritise initiatives based on commercial upside and strategic fit — ensuring the right resourcing, sequencing, and follow‑through
Partner with the CEO / Founder as a strategic asset in high‑value conversations, leveraging her industry presence and positioning, while retaining full accountability for commercial outcomes
Build a culture where growth is everyone’s job — supported by structure, clarity, and measurable performance
Commercial leadership across budgeting, forecasting, and performance — with strong accountability for P&L outcomes
Budgeting, forecasting, and Board reporting
Drive margin improvement and commercial discipline
Own growth targets and commercial outcomes
Operational Leadership
Lead the business through strong systems, governance, and operational structure
Partner closely with an established operations function to ensure consistency, compliance, and scalability
Demonstrate respect for established operational capability and the judgement to strengthen what works, while addressing what does not
Focus on strengthening clarity, accountability, and execution across the operating model
Scaling With Discipline & Systems Thinking
Think systematically and convert growth ambition into disciplined, repeatable execution
Design operating models that remain robust as complexity increases
Prioritise structure, clarity, and process over dependency on individuals
Strengthen governance, metrics, reporting, and documentation to support confident, sustainable growth
Maintain quality, consistency, and commercial performance as the organisation scales
Strengthen scalable systems and operating rhythms — reducing reliance on reactive firefighting through strong leadership, aligned people, and clear execution
Lead, develop, and support staff
Establish clear expectations and performance standards
Address under performance constructively and decisively
Foster a culture of ownership, professionalism, and follow‑through
Stakeholder & Board Engagement
Build trusted relationships with clients, partners, and the Board
Keep the Board informed through clear, relevant reporting
Represent the business with confidence, credibility, and professionalism
What You’ll Bring
Proven senior leadership experience helping scale a successful SME or services organisation — with clear evidence of disciplined growth, team leadership, and commercial impact
P&L oversight and a track record of improving both top‑line growth and operating performance
Experience in education, training, B2B services, or real estate (highly regarded)
Strong commercial and financial acumen
Confidence leading through people, systems, and governance rather than control
The ability to work alongside a visible CEO / Founder and a strong operations leader in a collaborative executive model
The maturity to move decisively without destabilising people, systems, or momentum
Why You’ll Love This Role
An established, profitable business — not a rebuild
A strong operational foundation already in place
Genuine executive influence and autonomy
A CEO / Founder who remains active externally while empowering the executive team internally
A collaborative, capable leadership group and positive professional culture
We welcome applications from experienced executives, particularly those who have successfully led a business unit, acted as Interim GM, or led sales strategy and are now ready to take a proven SME to serious scale.
This role will appeal to a GM who prefers clarity, structure, and measurable outcomes over personality‑driven leadership.
APPLICATIONS ONLY ACCEPTED VIA ONLINE SUBMISSION AND WITH COVER LETTER.
