An outstanding opportunity has become available for a driven and commercially astute General Manager to take the helm of a large-scale, well-resourced Heavy Engineering business unit within a well-established, industrial group.
This role is perfect for a senior operational leader or high-performing Operations Manager looking to step up. You’ll be entrusted with full responsibility for sales, operational performance, commercial outcomes, customer retention and growth, and leadership of a diverse team across multiple fabrication workshops.
As part of a broader executive leadership team, you’ll work closely with other business unit leaders to drive strategic growth and continuous improvement in a company that has a strong footprint across multiple sectors. We will want you to focus on your strengths in the Resources sector.
What You’ll Be Doing
Lead all aspects of the business unit, including operations, safety, people, and financial performance
Act as the face of the business unit to key customers and stakeholders across WA and nationally
Own and execute the business unit strategy aligned with broader corporate goals
Proactively grow revenue through hands‑on sales activity and the pursuit of tendered and negotiated work
Oversee quoting, estimation, and commercial submissions – balancing margin and win‑rates
Ensure projects are delivered safely on time and on budget through strong accountability frameworks
Build, mentor, and retain a high‑performing leadership and technical team across all levels
Maintain strict compliance with HSEQ requirements and lead a safety‑first culture
Provide structured reporting to the CEO on operational and financial performance, risks, and pipeline
About You
We’re seeking a well‑rounded leader who brings a mix of technical credibility, sales capability, and people leadership. Your background may include time as a General Manager, Operations Manager, or Engineering Manager in a fabrication, manufacturing, or project delivery environment. Crucially, you’ll bring:
Trade or engineering background, ideally in welding or fabrication
A deep understanding of welding codes, procedures, and industry standards
A strong personal book of client relationships – ideally across Mining and the broader resources sector
A proven track record in sales, quoting, and customer management
Experience leading workshop‑based operations with responsibility for performance, quality, and delivery
Led a team through a growth journey or stepped into a business and uplifted performance through structure, systems, and leadership.
Strong financial acumen – ability to manage budgets, margins, and reporting
A hands‑on leadership style with the ability to inspire and hold others to account
A safety‑first mindset and working knowledge of HSEQ frameworks
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
