The SEA2273 Sub-Program, under the Fleet Information Environment (FIE) Modernisation initiative, is delivering
Minerva —a cyber-hardened, integrated, and mission-critical ICT environment that underpins Navy operations across ships, submarines, and shore establishments.
Minerva provides secure command and control, superior situational awareness, and resilient networks across Defence, Coalition partners, and Other Government Organisations.
We are seeking an experienced
Solution Architect
to play a pivotal role in the design, delivery, and sustainment of this complex warfighting network environment.
About the Role
As a Solution Architect, you will design and shape end-to-end infrastructure and platform solutions across
hybrid cloud and on-premise environments
within Warfighting Networks. You will work closely with Defence, industry partners, and subject matter experts to ensure Minerva remains secure, scalable, and future-ready.
This role offers a rare opportunity to apply modern cloud, automation, and container technologies in a high-assurance, mission-critical environment that has real operational impact.
Key Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Designing and documenting
end-to-end infrastructure and platform architectures
across hybrid cloud and on-prem environments.
Designing and implementing
infrastructure-as-code (IaC)
and automation solutions.
Supporting the implementation of
container orchestration platforms
(e.g. Kubernetes, OpenShift) and CI/CD pipelines.
Providing architecture guidance for
hybrid services
and integration with external systems.
Assisting with build activities and
defect remediation
for hybrid and orchestration services.
Developing
Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
and build documentation.
Delivering
SME demonstrations and technical training
to internal and external stakeholders.
Supporting day-to-day operations, including
Level 3 escalations .
Collaborating closely with internal teams and external partners to support the
ongoing enhancement and sustainment of Minerva ICT systems .
Required Skills and Experience
Proven hands-on experience architecting and deploying solutions on
distributed systems , including hybrid cloud infrastructure.
Expertise in at least one major cloud platform ( AWS, Azure, or GCP ) with strong knowledge of
IaC and automation tooling .
Strong experience with
containerisation and orchestration
technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift).
Ability to translate
customer requirements, industry standards, and frameworks
into practical and scalable solution designs, including Identity Management solutions.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills, with the ability to engage effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Desirable Skills and Experience
Deep technical expertise with a balanced approach to
innovation and pragmatism .
Strong
documentation and architecture modelling
capabilities.
Knowledge of industry-standard frameworks such as
TOGAF .
Experience applying frameworks to
architecture design, testing, and evaluation .
Familiarity with
SEA2273 Minerva systems .
Work Arrangement
Monday to Friday business hours,
40-hour standard working week , with occasional overtime by agreement.
Canberra or Sydney based
(preferred).
DSN access
required.
Security & Compliance
Must
hold and maintain a Negative Vetting Level 2 (NV2)
security clearance prior to commencement.
Must comply with
US International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) , as the role may involve access to export-controlled ICT hardware and software.
