This is a 12 month fixed term, full-time position commencing ASAP with possible extension and/or permanency.

The Role The Principal Consultant – Projects key responsibilities are to coordinate and support system‑wide projects, initiatives, strategies and reform programs undertaken by the Finance and Commercial Services Division on behalf of the Department of Education WA. This includes the delivery of State Government election commitments.

We are seeking a dynamic, analytical and personable individual with extensive experience in research and analysis, development of project plans and other key documentation. Experience in contract management and procurement is also highly desirable. The ability to build and maintain strategic relationships with key stakeholders to assist the division’s delivery of strategic objectives will be vital to your success in this role.

As your first project upon joining the team, you will be involved in the delivery of the Boosting Outside Schools Hours Care (OSHC) election commitment. Supporting the Manager, Strategic Projects, your key tasks will include:

reviewing current OSHC processes

conducting an environmental scan and analysis including stakeholder engagement, jurisdictional comparisons, market analysis, service availability, quality assurance assessments and financial analysis.

conduct stakeholder consultation

establish service requirements

More broadly, the position will monitor, review and evaluate the effectiveness of projects, initiatives, strategies and reform programs to identify opportunities for continuous improvement, and report progress to senior management, relevant committees and other relevant interest groups.

Finance and Commercial Services (FaCS) is responsible for:

delivering the Department’s strategic financial objectives to ensure the provision of high standards of governance and risk management and the on‑going monitoring and enhancement of the accounting practices, standards and systems

financial planning and linking financial planning with budget allocation and management

commercial services to develop and implement frameworks and tools to support commercial decision making and ensure financial and contract risk management and the provision of commercial advice and management.
