Responsibilities
Deliver primary medical care to patients in accordance with professional standards, legislation, and Defence Policies and Procedures.
Form part of a multidisciplinary team working toward the shared purpose of achieving and maintaining the health and wellbeing of Defence members.
Assess Defence personnel for fitness for duty and provide care that supports the health and wellbeing of members pre‑ and post‑deployments.
Provide medical technical advice to the Joint Health Unit (JHU) Commanding Officer, Joint Health Command (JHC) Health Centre Manager and unit Commanders.
Work with a team of Senior Medical Officers and uniformed colleagues.
Deliver services in either an outpatient setting or inpatient ward setting.
Travel around QLD in a Bench role.
A “Bench” role is a permanent employee status, so you accrue sick and annual leave and each day is a potential availability to be called in to backfill sick leave or planned leave. The role is rosters/operations use to fill shifts each week where there may be a vacancy, short‑term sick leave or planned annual leave. It differs from a casual role in that you are on the permanent staff and paid as a full‑time employee whether you fill your full quota of 5 days or not. This requires flexibility and commitment to being available each day.
In partnership with Bupa, our ADF Health Services team provides integrated healthcare services to Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel across Australia. We provide defence‑ready clinical and support staff across 45+ on‑base locations, ensuring ADF personnel have access to quality on‑site medical care.

Qualifications
Highest levels of personal integrity and ethical behaviour.
Current unconditional and unrestricted registration as a Medical Practitioner, General in Australia with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP) OR Fellowship of the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (FACRRM) OR vocational registration.
Minimum of 2 years full‑time postgraduate general practitioner experience in a general practice setting within the last 5 years (or part‑time equivalent).
Recent participation in continuous professional development (CPD) activities in accordance with AHPRA.
Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (HLTAID009) certification.
Important Information
You must be an Australian Citizen to obtain the required Baseline Security Clearance for this role.
You do not need to be enlisted in the Defence Force to work as a civilian on‑base; your job remains here even if the Defence personnel you care for are deployed.
