Job Description

About the Role This role is responsible for leading our four litigation practice groups as well as the Legal Capability and Performance (LCP) and Enabling Services Group (ESG) within the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (Cth) (CDPP).

These litigation practice groups prosecute matters across Australia, each focused on distinct crime types and responsible for the managing and conducting associated prosecutions.

LCP is a specialist legal practice group which plays a critical role in strengthening the quality and effectiveness of the CDPP's legal work, providing support to prosecutors, driving continuous improvement and innovation and supporting capability development.

ESG provides support to the litigation practice groups through the delivery of corporate services and continued digital transformation.

Working closely with the Director, Associate Director and Chief Operating Officer; as the Commonwealth Solicitor for Public Prosecutions, you will lead the development of legal strategy that enables operational effectiveness, safeguards integrity and strengthens the CDPP's influence and reputation across the criminal justice system. This role provides evidence-based legal and strategic advice to the Director, Associate Director, Ministers and senior stakeholders.

The key duties of the position include

Champion the Director's vision and ensure delivery of the goals for the Office and cohesively lead the various Practice Groups and the Enabling Services in line with the CDPP's strategic direction;

Provide frank and evidence-based legal and strategic advice to the Director, Ministers and senior stakeholders;

Represent the CDPP publicly at the highest levels, enhancing its reputation as the peak agency in the Commonwealth criminal justice system;

Shape national stakeholder engagement with courts, law enforcement, government agencies and international partners, reinforcing the CDPP's role and influence;

Strengthen whole-of-government collaboration while protecting the independence of the prosecutorial function;

Model ethical leadership, resilience and professionalism, setting a clear example of integrity, judgement and accountability;

Ensure the CDPP maintains an inclusive, safe and high-performing culture underpinned by APS Values and the Code of Conduct;

Steward organisational performance, including financial sustainability, risk management and compliance with the requirements of the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act 2013 (Cth); and

Champion organisational transformation, including digital innovation, data capability and modernisation of prosecution services.

What we are looking for In addition, we are looking for a senior leader who:

has extensive experience in managing and leading a national litigation practice, or similar, with criminal law experience desirable.

can demonstrate capabilities expected of senior leaders in the APS, aligned with the Secretaries' Charter of Leadership Behaviours (DRIVE) and Integrated Leadership System (SES Band 3).
