With a new CEO joining UnitingCare in January 2026, the time is now to appoint a permanent Chief Financial Officer to shape the next chapter of our organisation.

Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Reporting to the CEO, the

Chief Financial Officer

will shape and lead UnitingCare's financial strategy, ensuring strong governance while driving and optimising stakeholder relationships to leverage long-term value creation and sustainable growth. You will guide critical financial decisions, optimise performance, and enable the organisation to achieve its vision and objectives.

This role fosters an environment that enhances organisational value through business optimisation and strategic collaboration. Working collaboratively with the Executive Leadership Team, the CFO balances the expectations of employees, stakeholders, and customers to strengthen service delivery, accelerate growth, and improve profitability—all while upholding UnitingCare’s mission to create positive social impact.

Please note, this is a full‑time position offered with a five (5) year contract of employment.

Your part in our UnitingCare team

Provide strategic financial management, including cost and revenue optimisation, risk management, planning and implementation, and the management of all finance activities such as budgeting, forecasting and negotiations.

Collaborate with the executive leadership team to establish long‑range financial goals, strategies, plans, and policies.

Act as the finance representative Director on various UnitingCare partnerships, Boards, etc. as required, balancing the missional imperatives of the Uniting Church with the commercial imperatives of operating a large not‑for‑profit health and community services provider.

Drive high levels of accountability in the management of investments, providing prudent and effective financial advice, systems and processes to ensure existing and future activities are financed according to priorities and cash flow is effectively managed.

Design and integrate existing and future financial systems to provide robust, accurate and timely financial data and reporting to all areas of the organisation to support day‑to‑day operations and planning for the future.

Establish and monitor appropriate benchmarks and performance standards for the organisation’s financial position, ensuring UnitingCare’s financial management processes identify, quantify, report and adequately manage all significant financial risk exposure.

Manage the treasury function in accordance with agreed treasury policy aimed at ensuring rates of return on surplus funds and debt costs are consistent with prudent financial practices, seeking to minimise costs.

Provide executive leadership in leveraging and managing the property portfolio of UnitingCare and support the development of merger, acquisition and divestment strategies, target growth and revenue opportunities, and lead the delivery of major commercial projects including negotiation of complex commercial transactions.

Provide advice regarding property investment strategies and initiatives and build robust investment proposals as required.

Ensure the development and delivery of procurement, fleet and business support strategies across UCQ to deliver improved services and target benefits and cost savings.

Proven experience in a strategic executive leadership position, leading a broad financial services function in a large, complex organisation, maximizing long‑term business viability and growth.

A recognised, values‑led leader committed to fostering an inclusive culture that engages, empowers and inspires high‑performing teams.

Demonstrable executive and Board‑level stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence, drive and motivate Executive Leaders with excellent communication/interpersonal skills.

Tertiary and postgraduate qualifications in Accounting, Business or a related field and a membership of CPA/ICAA.

Proven working knowledge of accounting standards and requirements, with experience in managing the full suite of finance functions, including treasury, property and procurement.

Knowledge of the framework, principles and obligations relating to the aged care, health and community services sector and the profit‑for‑purpose sector is desirable but not required.

In accordance with requirements outlined by the ACQSC and/or the NDIS this role is considered Key Personnel; you will be required to meet key suitability criteria and complete additional compliance measures.
