Barkuma is seeking an experienced and values-driven Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join our Executive Team at a pivotal time for the organisation and the broader disability sector.

About the Role:

This role will be reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the CFO plays a critical leadership role in driving Barkuma’s financial sustainability, commercial performance and technology capability in an increasingly complex and competitive National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) environment.

This is a strategic and hands‑on executive role that partners closely with the CEO, Executive and Leadership Team to ensure Barkuma operates with strong financial discipline, commercial insight and fit‑for‑purpose systems, while maintaining our mission-driven commitment to high‑quality, participant‑centred supports.

The CFO leads the Finance, Property & Assets and ICT functions to ensure these services actively enable service delivery, organisational growth, operational efficiency, compliance and positive participant outcomes.

As a key strategic advisor to the CEO and Board, you will lead the development and execution of Barkuma’s financial and commercial strategy, ensuring the effective stewardship of diverse income streams including NDIS revenue, government funding and commercial operations. This role plays an important part in enabling initiatives and processes that support vulnerable individuals, contributing to create positive and meaningful impacts on their lives.

Key Responsibilities:

Drive long‑term financial sustainability through robust modelling, forecasting and scenario planning aligned to NDIS pricing and market conditions.

Provide commercially focused advice on pricing, margins, investment decisions, capital allocation and growth opportunities.

Oversee financial performance across organisational, program and site levels, identifying risks and opportunities to improve commercial outcomes.

Lead core financial operations including budgeting, forecasting, payroll, accounts payable/receivable and financial controls.

Ensure compliance with audit, regulatory and contractual obligations including NDIS, DSS and statutory reporting requirements.

Act as Executive Lead for financial governance, risk management frameworks and external audit processes.

In addition, the CFO will successfully implement Barkuma’s ICT strategy, ensuring technology platforms effectively support service delivery, financial management and workforce productivity. You will oversee system availability, cybersecurity, data integrity and digital transformation initiatives that improve efficiency, compliance and data visibility across the organisation.

The role also provides strategic oversight of Barkuma’s property, procurement and asset management functions to support sustainable organisational growth and effective service delivery.

About You

You are a commercially astute senior finance executive who is comfortable operating in a fast‑paced, purpose‑driven not‑for‑profit environment subject to evolving policy, funding and regulatory change.

You will bring:

Significant executive finance leadership experience within a large, complex organisation (disability, health or human services experience highly regarded).

Demonstrated experience in a CFO (or equivalent) role.

Strong understanding of NDIS pricing, funding models and compliance requirements.

Experience managing diverse income streams including government funding and fee‑for‑service revenue.

Proven experience in financial governance, risk management and Board reporting.

Advanced financial modelling, forecasting and analytical capability.

Experience overseeing ICT strategy and operations.

Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to translate complex financial information into clear, practical insights for non‑finance stakeholders.

Qualifications and Clearances:

Tertiary qualifications in Finance, Accounting or a related discipline and CPA or CA accreditation (or equivalent) are essential.

Current NDIS Worker Screening or DHS Disability clearance (or willingness to obtain).

Current DHS Working with Children check.

NDIS Worker Orientation Module ‘Quality, Safety and You’ (or willingness to obtain).

Appropriate infection control and Child Safe Environments certificate.

Special Conditions:

Work rights for Australia.

Ability to work at any Barkuma location as directed.

Current Australian Driver’s Licence.
