The Department of Health plays a critical role in the Victorian health system and is responsible for shaping it to meet the health needs of all Victorians. We’re focused on
supporting Victorians to be as healthy as they can; whether through alerting them to seasonal risks like thunderstorm asthma, notifying them of contact with
communicable diseases, safeguarding their drinking water, developing the best health, wellbeing and care facilities in the world, being at the forefront of mental health and
wellbeing treatment or accelerating medical research. It’s all part of the way we partner with the community to help every individual lead a healthy life.
About the role
The Director, Intergovernmental Relations provides strategic leadership and authoritative advice to the Secretary, senior executives and Ministers on interjurisdictional health and human services policy and funding matters. The role leads high-level engagement with the Commonwealth and other jurisdictions, including the negotiation and management of national and bilateral funding agreements, to secure outcomes that advance Victoria's interests.
The Director drives a coordinated and proactive intergovernmental agenda through robust analysis, strategic influence and strong partnerships, supporting Victoria's participation in national bodies and shaping national policy and reform priorities.
The Director also provides critical financial stewardship across intergovernmental negotiations, ensuring funding agreements, national reforms and policy proposals are underpinned by robust modelling and analysis to assess financial impact, affordability and risk. Working closely with other divisions, the Director supports sustainable funding outcomes, strengthens funding and accountability arrangements, and provides advice that informs budget strategy and government decision-making to optimise Victoria's arrangements with other jurisdictions.
