General Manager – Operations

to join our leadership team and drive our national expansion.

About the Role Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you will oversee the operational performance of Porter Plant, ensuring the safe and efficient delivery of services across workshops, field service, spare parts, and transport. With a pragmatic approach and strong leadership skills, you will set the vision, execute strategic plans, and deliver results.

Based at either our

Ballarat

or

Derrimut

office, you will travel regularly across our network of sites and to customer and supplier locations. It is a requirement to work in Ballarat minimum 3 days per week.

Key Responsibilities

Lead preventative maintenance programs to maximise fleet availability and lifecycle

Manage workflows for planned and unplanned maintenance, ensuring compliance and optimal resource scheduling

Oversee budget planning, analysis, and reporting

Monitor workforce allocation, balancing in-house mechanics and external contractors

Conduct annual reviews of contractors and suppliers, securing procurement opportunities

Drive productivity KPIs and manage urgent maintenance issues on a 24/7 basis

Ensure accurate data capture and reporting via internal systems and fleet management software

Maintain OH&S standards in partnership with the HSEQ Manager

Monitor major contracts for compliance, asset downtime, and dispute resolution

Manage branches ensuring KPIs are met and workshops are compliant

Champion employee training and continuous improvement initiatives

About You

Minimum 5 years’ proven success in the hire/rental industry in a senior operational role

Trade background or mechanical experience (preferred but not essential)

Strong fleet management and mobile plant compliance expertise

Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills

Analytical mindset with strong computer skills

Decisive leader with the ability to motivate and manage teams

Willingness to travel intrastate and interstate

High attention to detail and ability to act with urgency
