About the Role
We are excited to introduce a newly created Head of Strings position โ an opportunity for an innovative, creative and inspiring professional to shape and grow a flagship Rโ12 strings program. Working closely with the Heads of Music and Co-Curricular Music and the junior school Performing Arts Coordinator, you will have the professional freedom to design pathways, build ensembles, mentor tutors and establish a strong strings culture within a supportive and future-focused College community.
While this is a part-time role (0.6), there is an opportunity to also privately tutor strings students at the College, offering additional opportunities for involvement and increased time on campus, should the incumbent desire.
Key Responsibilities
Lead, develop and oversee the Collegeโs Rโ12 strings program, ensuring a coherent, sequential curriculum and smooth pathways from Year 2 String Immersion through to senior ensembles
Direct key curricular and co-curricular ensembles, including the Year 2 String Immersion program, Primary String Orchestra and Senior School Orchestra
Coordinate major performances, events, auditions and student progression pathways across the program
Mentor and support a team of peripatetic string tutors, manage program resources and uphold a strong culture of pastoral care and student achievement
Build and sustain strong community and industry connections, positioning Scotch at the forefront of string education.
About You
You will be an accomplished string educator, conductor and program leader with:
Demonstrated experience directing school string programs and ensembles across primary and secondary settings
Strong teaching skills and experience delivering early strings programs (e.g., immersion/Kodรกly/Suzuki-informed approaches)
Proven ability to recruit, mentor and guide string tutors and ensemble directors
Excellent organisation, communication and interpersonal skills, with a strong commitment to student wellbeing and child safety
Active engagement in the wider Adelaide string community and contemporary music education practice
