Senior Legal Officer / Senior Assessment Officer – Queensland Worker Screening Services Blue Card Services | Eligibility Assessment Team

Join Blue Card Services as a Senior Legal Officer / Senior Assessment Officer and play a critical role in protecting the community through high quality, legislatively sound employment screening.

About The Role As a Senior Legal Officer within the Queensland Worker Screening Services (Blue Card Services), you will assess complex and high profile screening applications and provide authoritative legal, policy and procedural advice. Your work will support fair, rigorous and child centred decision making under the Working with Children (Risk Management and Screening) Act 2000.

Key Responsibilities In this role you will: Lead complex assessment and decision support

Assess complex and high profile employment screening applications.

Review and analyse detailed information, identifying gaps and requesting further material as required.

Apply advanced knowledge of relevant legislation to conduct risk assessments in the best interests of children and young people.

Prepare high quality written recommendations, demonstrating detailed reasoning and appropriate application of the Working with Children (Risk Management and Screening) Act 2000.

Manage cases and provide expert advice

Case manage files effectively, ensuring timely prioritisation and workflow management.

Prepare clear, accurate reports, submissions, correspondence and documentation for internal and external stakeholders.

Provide authoritative advice on legislative, policy, procedural and administrative matters.

Support advocacy and stakeholder engagement

Support the advocacy team, including appearing on behalf of Blue Card Services and advocating for the interests of children and young people where required.

Build and maintain strong working relationships with external stakeholders through consultation, liaison and negotiation.

Respond to stakeholder enquiries on legislative and procedural matters relating to screening.

Contribute to capability development and organisational improvement

Mentor and support the development of Legal Officers (PO3) and Paralegal Officers (PO2).

Participate actively in policies, procedures and initiatives that strengthen governance, integrity and fraud control.

Contribute to positive change management and encourage team engagement with organisational objectives.

What We're Looking For To succeed in this role, you will bring: Technical Skills And Knowledge

Detailed knowledge, or the ability to quickly acquire knowledge, of the Working with Children (Risk Management and Screening) Act 2000.

Strong ability to interpret and apply legislation, policy and technical information.

Experience drafting high quality legal or technical reports.

Professional Capabilities

Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to meet deadlines and adjust priorities quickly.

Sound decision making skills informed by policy, precedent and sound judgement.

Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a collaborative team culture.
