Civil Engineering Team Leader – Residential Stormwater
This role drives technical excellence and leads our Residential Stormwater team, a dynamic group delivering detached housing, multi-unit, and basement drainage projects across Victoria.
The Opportunity
This is more than a technical leadership role. You’ll blend hands-on design expertise with operational oversight, people leadership, and strategic client management. You’ll mentor engineers and drafters (local and offshore), oversee resource planning and project forecasting, and strengthen partnerships with councils, water authorities, and Tier-1 builders. Key Responsibilities
Lead, coach, and empower a team of 6+ engineers and drafters (including offshore resources) to deliver consistent, high-quality outcomes.
Design and review residential and mixed-use stormwater systems; on-site detention (OSD), multi-unit drainage, basement and subsoil systems, and WSUD solutions, compliant with AS 3500.1 and local authority requirements.
Oversee operational performance: workflow allocation, budgeting, forecasting, and delivery tracking across multiple concurrent projects.
Drive process improvement, fostering collaboration between surveying, structural, and geotechnical disciplines, builders and local authorities to improve design efficiency.
Partner with clients to scope projects, prepare tenders, and provide civil design input during concept and construction phases.
Engage with councils and water authorities, navigating permits, planning schemes, and stormwater approval processes.
Champion a culture of accountability, technical excellence, and continuous improvement within your team.
About You
You’re a technically strong and people-focused engineer who enjoys both hands-on project work and guiding others toward success.
You’ll Ideally Bring
Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
Minimum 5 years’ experience in civil and stormwater design, ideally within a consulting environment.
Hands-on user of design tools such as AutoCAD / Civil 3D / MUSIC, with a practical grasp of OSD design and modelling.
Confident in leading small, high-performing teams, skilled in coaching, delegation, and feedback.
Sound understanding of local council and water authority standards, approval pathways, and compliance frameworks.
Strong communicator with a collaborative, down-to-earth approach and the ability to influence both clients and colleagues.
Positive mindset, operational awareness, and passion for mentoring and developing engineers.
