Job Description
This is a rare opportunity to step into a high-impact in-house Legal Counsel role within a large, complex and globally operating business, where legal is genuinely embedded in strategic decision-making.
You’ll sit close to the deal table, advising on significant M&A and corporate transactions, while also gaining exposure to commercial, operational and supply-chain related work that gives real breadth to your practice.
The role offers variety, responsibility and the chance to influence outcomes at scale.
How will this role develop your career?
You’ll work as part of a well-resourced, high-calibre in-house legal team, alongside lawyers with strong private practice and in-house backgrounds.
The legal function is respected by the business and involved early in strategic initiatives.
This role is particularly well suited to a lawyer who:
Wants deeper exposure to M&A, strategy and corporate development
Is keen to broaden into commercial contracts, operations and risk
Enjoys autonomy while still having access to strong internal support
Is thinking long-term about progression within an in-house environment
The complexity of the work, combined with the scale of the organisation, will significantly sharpen your commercial judgement and stakeholder skills.
Why lawyers enjoy working here?
Lawyers are attracted to this organisation because it offers:
High-quality, complex work comparable to top-tier private practice
Access to senior decision-makers and strategic projects
A collaborative, inclusive team culture
Strong remuneration and benefits
A sustainable in-house environment with sensible expectations
What will you be doing?
In this role, you will:
Advise on M&A, divestments and other strategic transactions
Support transaction structuring, due diligence and execution
Draft, review and negotiate transactional and complex commercial agreements
Provide advice on competition law and regulatory issues
Support operational and supply-chain related legal matters, including logistics, procurement and distribution
Identify and manage legal and regulatory risk across the business
Work closely with senior stakeholders across corporate development, operations, finance, HR and IT
Manage and instruct external counsel on major matters
What type of lawyer will be successful?
You will likely have:
5–10 years’ PQE in corporate / commercial law
Admission as an Australian solicitor with a current practising certificate
Background in a top-tier or well-regarded law firm and/or a large in-house team
Strong transactional experience, ideally with M&A exposure
A commercial mindset and confidence advising senior stakeholders
The ability to work autonomously while collaborating across functions
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
