The Role
The
Maintenance & Engineering Manager
is a Perth-based role responsible for the management and oversight of all maintenance and engineering operations across our operations. The role has end-to-end accountability for ensuring all drilling rigs and associated assets are fit for purpose, safe, and available, with downtime minimised and asset life maximised.
This role is a key member of the management team and provides guidance and leadership to a functional team of Superintendents, Supervisors, and Dual Trade Fitters supporting our drilling fleet and associated assets.
Responsibilities
Maintenance & Asset Management
Oversee maintenance and engineering activities for a fleet of ~25 drill rigs and 120+ support assets working across multiple client sites
Ensure maximum equipment availability through effective maintenance practices, breakdown management, and continual improvement
Develop and implement maintenance programs and longer-term servicing and asset management lifecycle plans
Provide leadership for the management of breakdown response (across multiple remote FIFO sites) to minimise downtime
Provide technical guidance and escalation support
Establish and maintain maintenance standards, schedules, procedures, and engineering controls aligned with best practice operations.
Planning, Reporting & Performance
Oversee maintenance planning and scheduling across multiple FIFO sites
Develop, monitor, and report on performance
Devise best practice KPIs and establish asset performance and equipment availability targets
Provide regular, data-driven reporting to the management team on maintenance performance, costs, risks, and improvement initiatives
Support Superintendents, supervisors, and site leaders to build capability and consistency across sites
Drive a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with company, client, and legislative requirements
Lead and manage change initiatives within the maintenance and engineering function, ensuring continuous improvement
Budget, Vendors & Commercial
Develop and manage the maintenance budget, ensuring cost control and value delivery
Develop asset rebuild budgets, providing accurate guidance on cost and completion
Manage external vendors, suppliers, and contractors, including performance, quality, and commercial outcomes
Support procurement and capital planning for parts, equipment, and fleet upgrades
Support engineering decisions relating to equipment selection, modifications, and upgrades
Drive continuous improvement initiatives to improve reliability, maintainability, and safety
Competence & Skills
The role requires proven competence likely to have been gained in a Maintenance & Engineering Manager or Superintendent position in a FIFO drilling, mining, or heavy mobile equipment environment. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong people leadership, highly developed planning and organisational skills, and proven capability in developing preventative maintenance strategies and long-term asset management frameworks. A strong performance focus supported by KPIs and reporting, along with competence in budget, vendor, and contractor management, is essential, as is the ability to solve complex problems and lead change in demanding operational environments.
