Job Summary
Sungrow Renewables is seeking a commercially minded and proactive
Legal Counsel
to support the development and investment of utility-scale renewable energy projects in Australia.
This role will provide end-to-end legal support across the full project development lifecycle, including land acquisition, permitting, grid connection, PPA negotiation, EPC contracting, and regulatory compliance. The Legal Counsel will work closely with internal stakeholders such as Development, EPC, and Investment teams, while also managing external legal advisors to ensure projects progress efficiently, compliantly, and with well-managed risk.
The successful candidate will bring strong knowledge of Australian legal and regulatory frameworks relevant to renewable energy, along with the ability to translate complex legal requirements into practical guidance that supports business execution.
Key Responsibilities
Project Development Compliance Control
Lead the legal compliance review for the entire development process of new energy projects (photovoltaic, wind power) in Australia, including key stages such as land acquisition, environmental permits, grid connection agreements, PPA (Power Purchase Agreements), and legal risk assessment and solution formulation.
Actively participate in the application and processing of project licenses, provide legal support, and coordinate internal and external resources to advance the process. Collaborate with the development team to maintain communication channels with government departments.
Legal Risk Management
Establish a dynamic risk monitoring mechanism for sensitive areas such as the new energy industry policies, land laws, foreign investment restrictions, and labor compliance, to provide early warnings and develop response strategies.
Review core documents such as project development related agreements, EPC contracts, control clause risks, and drive negotiations. Work closely with the development team to optimize the project development path from a legal perspective and improve the compliance of development actions.
Risk Control Training and Empowerment
Regularly provide training to the business team on the interpretation of new energy regulations and compliance operation guidelines, enhancing the team's compliance awareness.
Law Firm Management and External Resource Coordination
Manage external law firms, consulting firms, and other resources to efficiently resolve complex legal issues.
Perform other tasks that may be assigned by the Line Manager.
