About Umwelt
Umwelt is an Australian owned environmental consultancy operating for over 30 years, with 9 offices nationwide. We are a team of vibrant professionals with experience across a range of sectors including renewables, infrastructure, defence, regulation and policy, resources, and the urban development sector.
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Geospatial Consultant to join our Spatial & Visualisation team.
About the Role:
We’re looking for a Senior Geospatial Consultant who enjoys solving real world problems. This role is hands on and solution focused, working with clients to design, optimise and automate digital workflows that actually get used.
As a Senior Geospatial Consultant, you will play a key role in delivering high quality digital solutions that support our social and environmental projects. You will provide expert geospatial insights, contribute to building a strong and sustainable pipeline of work and develop spatially enabled solutions that enhance decision making, improve operational efficiency and support ongoing business growth. You will play a key role in mentoring and developing emerging talent, fostering strong technical capability, critical thinking and best-practice approaches across the team.
If you enjoy translating spatial complexity into elegant, scalable solutions, you’ll feel right at home.
Key Responsibilities:
Design, build and optimise digital workflows
Develop and maintain automated spatial processes using FME, Python or similar automation tools
Solve real-world problems using the Esri ecosystem
Ability to understand requirements and design fit-for-purpose digital solutions
Demonstrated expertise in database design and development, with a strong understanding of spatial and tabular data structures, supporting end-to-end workflows from field data capture through to analysis, reporting, and long-term data management
Implement and enforce Geospatial data standards and best practices (naming conventions, templates, QA processes, documentation)
Analyse existing spatial workflows and identify opportunities for improvement and optimisation
Work directly with clients to understand requirements and deliver practical, solution oriented outcomes
Communicate clearly with internal teams and external stakeholders, translating technical concepts into actionable insights
Contribute to continuous improvement of our spatial tools, templates and methodologies
Provide mentorship and guidance to junior team members, actively sharing knowledge and helping shape the capability and thinking of the next generation of spatial professionals
About You:
Degree qualified in Geography, Environmental Science, GIS or a related field
Strong technical skills across the Esri platform (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, Enterprise etc)
Experience with automation — FME, Python, or equivalent (the tool matters less than the solution oriented thinking)
Demonstrated technical expertise in database design and development, including relational and spatial data modelling, SQL and spatial SQL, and the management of ecological and environmental datasets across field, GIS, and analytical workflows
Proven experience creating, maintaining and optimising GIS workflows
Hands on experience applying data standards and best practices (naming conventions, templates, QA/QC, metadata)
Clear, confident written and verbal communication skills
Previous consulting experience or experience working directly with clients and stakeholder
Nice to have:
Experience or strong interest in PowerBi and data visualisation
Exposure to or curiosity about AI / Machine Learning in a spatial or data context
Experience or interest in data systems, integrations or spatial data architecture
What We offer:
Our people are our number one asset, and we are committed to providing a workplace that supports our team to grow. As part of our team, you will be offered:
A role collaborating with experienced professionals to support your growth and development
Paid parental leave for both primary and secondary carers
Flexible work arrangements to support a work/life balance
Opportunities to work nationally across diverse and technically challenging projects
#MeDays : an Umwelt wellbeing initiative offering staff one extra paid day off for 12 months of the year
Generous additional hours policy and working away from home benefits
Opportunities to join Umwelt’s Employee Share Plan (ESP)
A workplace culture of learning and personal development, with a mix of in house and externally hosted training opportunities offered as well as mentorship
Established and well considered wellbeing tools and initiatives and hands on training
A competitive salary based on skills and experience
