Anaesthetist - Major Teaching Hospital - Expansion

Join a leading referral hospital in North Queensland as a Specialist Anaesthetist.

In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to deliver a wide variety of anaesthetic and perioperative services, with room to develop specialized clinical interests across various specialties.

As a major teaching hospital, it boasts around 500 inpatient beds and receives referrals from both large and smaller facilities for tertiary services.

The Department of Anaesthesia is supported by a diverse senior staff of over 60 consultant anaesthetists, including full‑time specialists, part‑time staff specialists, and VMOs. With more than 30 anaesthetic registrars, including ANZCA registrars, provisional fellows, GP, ED, and ICU trainees, as well as 5 RMOs, the department offers robust training opportunities. Specialized senior staff are also available in areas like cardiac anaesthetics, paediatric anaesthetics, and hyperbaric medicine.

This department is accredited by ANZCA for three years of anaesthetic registrar training and serves as the tertiary hub for the Northern rotation, overseen by the Queensland Anaesthetic Rotational Training Scheme (QARTS).

The hospital features 14 operating theatres, performing approximately 16,000 procedures annually, with the addition of a 15th hybrid operating theatre set to open mid‑2025.

Additionally, the Anaesthetic Department provides out‑of‑theatre support for various procedures, including endoscopy, bronchoscopy, interventional cardiology, neuroradiology, endovascular clot retrieval, radiation oncology, medical imaging, mental health services, birth suite, and manages the acute pain service.

The department handles a diverse range of work, covering elective subspecialty surgeries, emergent services, anaesthetic clinics, acute pain management, and a comprehensive training and teaching program.
