Austal Ships is currently seeking a skilled

Senior Mechanical Engineer

to join our design team. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting and delivering mechanical design and drafting services across all phases of commercial vessel development—from concept through to final delivery. Your work will be instrumental in ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and in full compliance with Austal’s quality standards, client expectations, and regulatory requirements.

What’s Involved

Produce accurate information and documentation ensuring vessel design complies with relevant regulatory authorities, specifications and customer requirements

Lead and supervise design groups

Manage design inputs from third parties such as drawings, certifications and manuals

Monitor task schedules and proactively track progress and upcoming deliverables

Seek and implement improvements in design processes and product quality

Detail design of exhaust systems, propulsion systems, domestic systems, cooling systems, hydraulic systems and fire systems

Preparation of design drawings including calculations and schematics

Selection and requisition of machinery

You’ll need

Bachelor of Engineering Mechanical or Mechatronics

Advanced AutoCAD skills

Solid understanding of production methods and the practical application of design

5-10 years' experience in a similar capacity
