As the Manager of Government Relations and Strategic Initiatives, you'll play a pivotal role in positioning MDHS as a leading adviser in health policy. You'll have the opportunity to monitor and analyse emerging government policy developments, providing high-quality advice to senior leaders. By cultivating effective relationships with government stakeholders, you'll ensure MDHS is recognised as an essential partner in shaping health policy. This role offers you the chance to lead strategic initiatives, such as the MDHS AI Ambassador program, and seize collaboration opportunities across the University ecosystem.
Your responsibilities will include:
Monitor and Analyse Policy Developments: Keep abreast of changes in government policy and funding across all levels and provide strategic advice to MDHS leadership.
Cultivate Key Government Relationships: Build and maintain effective working relationships with Ministers' offices, departmental executives, and policy influencers.
Lead Strategic Initiatives: Oversee a portfolio of initiatives, including the MDHS AI Ambassador Program, aligning them with University and Government priorities.
Develop High-Quality Communication Materials: Prepare briefing notes, ministerial talking points, and resources to support MDHS academics engaging with government.
You may be a great fit if:
You have a strong background in government relations, policy analysis, or public administration, with excellent analytical skills and the ability to build productive and influential relationships with stakeholders.
You may also:
Possess demonstrated experience in government relations, policy analysis, or a related strategic advisory function.
Have a strong understanding of government processes and political environments across Commonwealth and State levels.
Exhibit excellent analytical and strategic thinking skills, translating complex information into clear, impactful advice.
Be adept at building and maintaining productive relationships with senior internal and external stakeholders.
Hold outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including preparation of ministerial briefs and policy papers.
Have a relevant undergraduate or postgraduate qualification in public policy, health, or a medical-related field.

Government Relations and Strategic Initiatives portfolio includes two functions:
Government Relations:
Provides analysis and insight regarding public policy related to the work of the Faculty, develops and advocates policy positions, supports research translation and coordinates and supports the Faculty's relationships with Chancellery teams and Government.
Strategic Initiatives:
Oversees the creation and delivery of key initiatives and programs that align with MDHS strategic priorities and key partners. We work in partnership with University Services and academic divisions to support and monitor progress.
