About us
Bikes Mwerre ("bikes are great") is a community initiative based in Alice Springs, NT working to empower Indigenous youth and families through cycling and active recreation. We work with communities, key organisations, schools and local councils to provide programs that are tailored to the needs of the young people.
About the role
The General Manager holds a critical leadership position responsible for directing the delivery, development, and quality of community programs and services at Bikes Mwerre. This role ensures operations are conducted in accordance with the established strategic plan, overseeing financial management, human resources, regulatory compliance, and program advancement to facilitate positive and sustainable outcomes for the communities served by the organisation.
This position integrates innovative thinking with effective leadership and hands‑on management, providing guidance to staff, stakeholders, and partners to implement impactful, client‑centered programs that reflect organisational values and meet identified community needs.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management –
Oversee financial management and reporting to maintain strong financial performance and sustainability of the organisation and cost‑effective use of its resources.
Human Resources -
Lead, motivate and support staff to deliver on the organisation's objectives and advance their understanding of their work, engagement and development.
Work Health & Safety (WHS) –
Provide leadership and oversight for the implementation and continuous improvement of WHS policies, systems, and procedures in compliance with Australian legislation and industry best practices.
Monitoring and Evaluation –
Track organisational effectiveness and progress towards achievement of strategic and operational goals.
Business Development & Community Engagement -
Build partnerships and maintain strong relationships through effective communication and engagement strategies.
Risk Management -
Ensure that risk management practices are embedded across all areas of the organisation's operations.
Program Delivery –
Oversee the planning and execution of programs and services.
Grants and Funding -
Develop resources and relationships to ensure the financial health and sustainability of the organisation through access to grants and funding.
Stakeholder & Partnership Management -
Ensure positive and effective stakeholder relationships are developed and maintained.
About you

You are a creative innovative storyteller, able to communicate with senior level stakeholders, yet comfortable interacting with young people and participating in and leading bike and other activities.
You are highly motivated and a strategic thinker, with strong attention to detail and you are adaptable, resilient and solutions-focused.
You are passionate about improving outcomes for individuals and communities and have a strong understanding of the cultural needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Qualifications and experience
Tertiary qualification in Community Services, Social Work, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Proven experience in program and operational management, team leadership and people management within the community services or not-for-profit sector.
Strong understanding of community development, youth services, stakeholder engagement, compliance, and funding frameworks.
Strong communication, organisational, and analytical skills.
Proficiency in CRM systems, Microsoft Office, and data management tools.
Valid NT Drivers Licence, Valid Ochre Card, first aid Certificate and willingness to undergo a National Police Check.
