Legal Counsel

to join our Australian Legal team and play a key role in supporting our business operations, mitigating risk, and enabling our people to deliver world‑class engineering and advisory services.

What You’ll Do Legal & Commercial Support

Provide timely, practical, and solutions‑focused legal services across the business.

Negotiate, draft and review engineering services contracts, standard form agreements, subcontracts, and other commercial documentation.

Translate complex legal concepts into clear, actionable advice for technical and non‑legal stakeholders.

Coordinate and interpret technical input into commercial and contractual frameworks.

Regulatory & Risk Management

Maintain awareness of relevant legislation, regulatory changes, and industry developments affecting WSP’s Australian operations.

Provide advice on straightforward legal and regulatory matters and support senior counsel on more complex issues.

Identify, elevate, and seek guidance on significant legal or commercial risks.

Dispute & Issue Management

Assist with managing disputes, including subpoenas, insurance matters, FOI requests, and other commercial issues.

Conduct research, prepare written advice, and engage with external parties—including clients and their legal representatives—where required.

Capability Building & Collaboration

Support the development and delivery of training for non‑legal staff on key legal topics.

Contribute to the development of internal legal intellectual capital, processes, and tools.

Participate in internal and external meetings, negotiations, and cross‑functional initiatives.

Demonstrate and promote behaviours aligned with

OneWSP , and uphold principles of

Safety, Health, Environment and Quality .

About You The successful candidate will ideally have:

5–8 years PQE , preferably with experience in engineering, construction or infrastructure law.

A

Bachelor of Laws degree

recognised in Australia and eligibility to practise.

Excellent

written and verbal communication skills , with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels.

Strong

negotiation, drafting and project management

capabilities.

The ability to navigate and resolve internal escalations with sound judgement.

A commercial mindset with the ability to deliver

practical, business‑focused legal advice .

High attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and a proactive approach to identifying solutions.

A collaborative mindset, openness to new ideas, and a willingness to contribute to a positive team culture.
