Mendelawitz Morton is a leading independent law firm in West Perth, offering bespoke legal solutions to mid-market businesses and high net worth individuals in corporate & commercial transactions. Our firm provides specialist support in mergers and acquisitions, tax, insolvency restructuring and turnaround, commercial disputes and litigation, business succession and estate planning.
As we continue to grow, we are seeking a Paralegal (soon to be admitted with 1-2 years experience in a law firm) or a Junior Lawyer (up to 2 years PAE) available full-time to support the Insolvency and Disputes team.
The Role
This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career lawyer to develop strong technical foundations while working closely with experienced senior lawyers on insolvency, disputes, litigation and commercial advisory matters.
You will be supporting a collaborative, high-calibre team advising mid market businesses, high-net-worth individuals, and accountants on corporate advisory matters, including:
Insolvency, restructuring and turnaround matters (including liquidations, voluntary administrations, personal insolvency and related advisory work)
Commercial disputes and litigation, including shareholder disputes, contractual disputes, debt recovery actions
Business restructuring
Property-related transactions arising from insolvency or dispute matters
Your work will include legal research, drafting correspondence, preparing court documents, drafting agreements, assisting with transactions and disputes, and supporting senior lawyers in managing complex matters. You will gain exposure to matters from instruction through to resolution, with appropriate supervision and mentoring.
Skills and experience
You will:
be admitted as a lawyer, or a paralegal with 2 years experience in a law firm
have upto 2 years’ post-admission experience (or strong paralegal experience in a commercial, litigation or insolvency environment)
strong academic background and genuine interest in insolvency, disputes and commercial law
sound drafting skills and attention to detail
a willingness to learn and take responsibility for tasks under supervision
strong communication skills, both written and verbal
a commercial mindset and curiosity about how businesses operate
a proactive, organised and solutions-focused approach
the ability to work collaboratively within a close-knit team
