Job Description
A fast-growing Australian global food brand is looking to appoint an In-House Legal Counsel to support its corporate legal strategy. This role works closely with the parent company in China, ensuring robust compliance frameworks are in place across jurisdictions.
The Role
As the In-House Legal Counsel, you will manage day-to-day legal and compliance matters for the Australian business and provide legal support to our sister company as required. This is a hands‑on, business‑partnering role in a dynamic, fast‑paced FMCG environment.
Core Responsibilities
Ensure compliance with Australian laws and regulations, including managing foreign investment (FIRB) compliance and liaising with regulators as required
Establish local compliance and risk control systems, develop annual implementation plans, and drive policy execution
Identify and manage key legal and compliance risks across major business areas, coordinating risk mitigation strategies and emergency response plans with internal stakeholders
Review and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements, including sales, vendor services, IT, and supply chain contracts (logistics, ingredients, manufacturing, etc.)
Support procurement, sales, and marketing teams with legal risk assessments for new business initiatives
Manage litigation, disputes, and investigations
Provide legal advice on commercial and operational matters
Manage online and offline trademark portfolios with support from external legal advisors
Deliver regular legal training and legal induction programs to employees
Collaborate closely with the China HQ legal team to continuously improve standard processes (e.g. chops, licence management)
About You
Minimum 4–5 years post‑admission legal experience
Tertiary qualification in Law and admitted to practise in Australia
Experience within the FMCG industry is highly regarded
Bilingual proficiency in English and Mandarin is essential for liaising with China HQ
