General Manager – Workforce & Strategy – MADEC Australia
MADEC Australia is a successful community‑owned not‑for‑profit and charitable organisation with a proud 50+ year history of providing relief to people experiencing poverty and/or distress. Employing around 180 staff across the country and with a turnover circa $200 million, MADEC delivers employment services, education and training, a Pacific labour mobility scheme and indigenous programs.
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the General Manager – Workforce & Strategy oversees a multi‑site labour hire workforce and provides visionary leadership, strategic direction and operational excellence for the organisation’s workforce division across Australia. Priorities will include driving performance, building scalable operational models and developing recruitment practices to position the business for future expansion in a dynamic and competitive market.
Key Responsibilities
Developing and executing a strategic plan for the division aligned with organisational objectives
Identifying and pursuing new market opportunities including sector diversification and geographic expansion
Driving innovation in recruitment, workforce deployment and technology adoption to enhance efficiency and scalability
Building and maintaining strategic relationships with clients, suppliers and government agencies
Ensuring compliance with industry and regulatory requirements
Monitoring financial performance and delivering budgeted revenue and profitability targets for the division
Negotiating and managing major client contracts to ensure long‑term commercial success
Driving employee engagement, retention and professional development initiatives
Championing a positive, inclusive and high‑performing culture by setting clear standards, driving accountability and fostering engagement across all levels of the workforce
Qualifications and Experience
Commercial acumen and strategic thinking combined with strong leadership, relationship building and negotiation skills
Collaborative mindset, high level communication abilities and an absolute commitment to exemplary customer service
Experience leading multi‑site teams, driving cultural transformation and managing high volume, fast‑paced operations
In‑depth knowledge of employment law, WHS regulations and compliance frameworks
