Job Description
The Executive Director & Company Secretary leads the Building Industry Credit Bureau (BICB) in achieving its strategic objectives, ensuring members have timely access to accurate credit data to make informed business decisions. This role is responsible for the operational, financial, and governance performance of the Bureau, ensuring it remains financially stable, compliant, and relevant to its membership base. The position combines executive leadership with company secretarial duties, requiring a strategic, hands‑on leader who can balance operational excellence with strong governance and member engagement.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Leadership & Organisational Development
Lead the overall strategy and operations of BICB to ensure continued financial stability and relevance.
Develop and implement strategies to deliver exceptional services to members.
Foster a culture of service excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Supervise and manage bureau staff, including performance management, training, and professional development.
Build and maintain strong relationships with members, partners, and industry stakeholders.
Work with external accountants and auditors to ensure financial statements are accurate and compliant with the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth).
Ensure modest but consistent profitability to fund growth strategies and maintain solvency.
Develop and implement a fair and sustainable fee structure.
Oversee budgeting, financial reporting, and resource allocation aligned with strategic objectives.
3. Governance & Company Secretarial Duties
Perform all company secretarial functions in compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.
Ensure ASIC and ABN records reflect the current directorship and are kept up to date.
Manage lodgement of audited financial statements and other statutory documents.
Maintain up-to-date corporate policies, procedures, and governance frameworks.
Prepare and distribute all reports and documentation for bi‑monthly Board meetings.
Organise and deliver the Bureau's Annual General Meeting (AGM) and associated Seminar Days.
Oversee the collection and processing of member trial balance data to ensure seamless, timely, and secure operations.
Collaborate with IT partners to streamline data upload processes and reduce manual intervention.
Maintain robust data governance frameworks to ensure zero chance of data breach.
Strive for same‑day turnaround of processed data to members.
5. Membership Growth, New Business & Account Management
Develop and implement strategies to grow BICB membership, including proactive identification and pursuit of new business opportunities, as well as re‑engaging and pursuing past members.
Set and achieve monthly targets for new member acquisition and report on progress to the Board.
Build and maintain strong relationships with existing members, ensuring high levels of satisfaction and retention through regular account management activities.
Conduct regular check‑ins and service reviews with members to ensure they are aware and utilising all BICB offerings, identify opportunities for service improvement, and identify growth opportunities in similar industries.
Ensure all members are trained in the use of the Members Portal and are aware of the full suite of BICB services.
Track, analyse, and report monthly on new business development and account management activities, providing insights and recommendations for continuous improvement.
Coordinate and host face‑to‑face meetings and quarterly Advisory Committee sessions to gather feedback and promote Bureau initiatives.
Organise and deliver high‑quality events, including AGM and industry seminars, that add value to the membership.
6. Workplace Health & Safety
Ensure the Bureau's operations comply with all aspects of the Workplace Health & Safety Act.
Maintain a safe and hazard‑free working environment.
Skills, Experience & Attributes
Proven experience in executive leadership, preferably with strong customer orientation.
Strong financial acumen, including budget management and financial reporting.
Deep understanding of corporate governance, compliance, and company secretarial functions.
Excellent communication and relationship management skills.
Strategic thinker with operational discipline and execution focus.
Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and develop teams.
High ethical standards and commitment to data security and confidentiality.
