About The Role
The PIPER Paediatric Medical Lead is a non‑clinical, permanent, part‑time position at 17.5 hours per fortnight. The role provides clinical governance, leadership, education, research and support to PIPER Paediatrics.
Responsibilities include leadership and performance of the PIPER Paediatric Service, collaborating with medical leads for neonatal and perinatal arms, and meeting agreed key performance indicators.
What You Will Achieve
Delivery of evidence‑based retrieval practice for critically unwell children.
Leadership in multidisciplinary meetings, working groups and committees to advocate for patient and family‑centred care.
Promotion of continuous improvement culture, aligning with policies, regulations and accreditation standards.
Leadership in educational activities, including outreach education in non‑tertiary hospitals.
Engagement with internal and external stakeholders regarding paediatric retrieval.
You Will Be Responsible For
Leading the paediatric service to ensure consistent high‑quality clinical care.
Collaborating with nursing colleagues on complex clinical and logistical issues.
Leading escalation processes.
Conducting clinical governance activities, including case review and quality improvement initiatives.
Managing recruitment, credentialing and performance of senior and junior medical staff.
Participating in multidisciplinary education activities, including outreach education in non‑tertiary hospitals.
Engaging with stakeholders regarding paediatric retrieval.
Your Skills And Experience
Specialist Medical Practitioner registered with AHPRA.
Significant consultant‑level experience.
Fellowship of a relevant specialist college (eg FCICM, FRACP, FANZCA, FACEM or equivalent).
Postgraduate qualifications or demonstrable experience in management.
Experience or qualification in a retrieval environment.
Capacity to work harmoniously and collaboratively within a small team.
Further training in leadership and management.
Excellent communication skills.
Demonstrable leadership skills.
About The Department
Emergency and non‑emergency medical retrieval services for sick children.
Emergency consultation advice service for clinicians caring for sick children.
Outreach education programmes in paediatric critical care for clinicians in non‑tertiary services in Victoria.
Advice and support to medical practitioners, nurses, midwives, paramedics and allied health personnel on stabilisation and transport of sick children.
Use of evidence‑based clinical guidelines, policies and procedures within an innovative, educational and advocacy environment.
