Principal Mechanical Engineer

with a strong passion for entrepreneurship, design leadership, and creating great products and services that make it to market. As a Principal Mechanical Engineer at IDE, you will provide technical leadership across multiple medical device programs while remaining hands-on in product development. You will be engaged in all aspects of Medical Device product development, from defining design inputs (user needs, product requirements, risk management), through concept development (brainstorm, design, build and test), detailed design (architecture definition, tolerance stacks, materials and manufacturing strategies), and product testing (verification and validation). You will typically lead or support between 1 and 3 projects at a time, ranging from 3 to 36 months in duration, on products as diverse as CT injectors, CPAP masks, safety syringes, and automated production systems. In this role, you will:

Act as a technical authority for mechanical engineering within project teams Guide and mentor engineers across different levels of experience Support technical decision-making, risk management, and design reviews Work closely with clinicians, marketers, project managers, researchers, and other engineers to deliver valuable products within time, budget, and regulatory constraints Contribute to the continuous improvement of IDE’s engineering practices, tools, and standards About you

– Applies deep mechanical engineering expertise across a wide range of product types and development stages. Desired Skills and Experience A degree in Mechanical Engineering or a similar applicable technical discipline Significant experience in medical device or regulated product development Strong proficiency with core software tools including Microsoft Office (PowerPoint & Project) and CAD software (preferably SolidWorks and/or Creo/Pro-E) Demonstrated experience leading mechanical design activities across multiple stages of the product development lifecycle Experience working within cross-functional, project-based teams Strong understanding of product development processes, methodologies, and practices (e.g. design thinking, agile, design controls) Extensive experience developing products under design controls as specified by a Quality Management System (ISO 9001, ISO 13485, GMP, or similar) Experience mentoring or technically leading other engineers is highly regarded Why IDE
