Job Description

Principal Mechanical Engineer – Building Services • Canberra, Australian Capital Territory, Australia As our portfolio of work continues to expand, our Building Engineering team in Canberra is looking to appoint a Principal Mechanical Engineer. We’re seeking a highly skilled technical leader who thrives on delivering quality design solutions across a broad range of sectors.

What you’ll do

Utilise your extensive mechanical design experience to deliver high-quality, cost-effective outcomes across health, defence, transport, data centre, sports, and other major building across ANZ.

Lead mechanical design packages on key client projects, taking ownership of technical delivery and providing rigorous design review to ensure excellence and compliance.

Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to drive quality across calculations, specifications, and detailed design documentation.

Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, supporting their technical development and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal teams and clients, contributing to successful project outcomes and repeat business.

Qualifications and Experience

Chartered Engineer with ACT professional engineer registration, or transferrable RPEQ/RPEV registration. Equivalent recognition with a relevant professional body will also be considered.

Ideally, 10–12+ years’ experience in a Building Services consultancy or significant design experience as a Senior/Project Engineer in the Mechanical Contracting field.

Proven record in technical design and project delivery while building and maintaining strong client relationships.

Strong understanding of Building Services projects and Standards, able to impart technical knowledge to clients, junior engineers, and multidisciplinary teams.

Experience managing multiple technical projects simultaneously, with demonstrable design expertise across diverse market sectors.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a passion for mentoring and developing junior engineers.

Due to the nature of our projects, Australian Citizenship is required with current / previously held defence clearance highly regarded.
