About the role
AEMO’s Operations Division is responsible, through close collaboration with asset owners and users, for managing the networks AEMO operates, currently those that enable the operation of the NEM. The Systems Performance team ensures that market ancillary services, such as frequency control, and asset performance remain as expected. It assists in rectifying compliance issues and plays an important role in developing the procedures and specifications that govern system and asset performance. Your role will be to provide technical leadership for the review of power system performance in relation to National Electricity Rules and generator performance standards. This will contribute to the effective introduction of new generation connections, and to the effective operation of the NEM generation fleet. This in turn supports AEMO in meeting its obligations under the National Electricity Rules.
Lead or direct the investigation into the technical performance of generators to provide recommendations and reporting on instances of generator non-compliance with performance standards.
Lead or direct the investigation of power system incidents and the analysis of power system performance issues to support possible actions or improvements. Manage and review technical reports ensuring all reports are of a high technical standard and suited to the intended audience. Identify reporting needed and direct development of more complex reports.
Identify the need for studies, and the objectives and approach to be used. Oversee the approach and presentation of studies.
Liaise with AEMO internal teams and NEM participants to provide advice, facilitate information exchange, query resolution and in the delivery of project outcomes; representing AEMO at forums and working groups. What you will bring to the role Electrical Engineering degree with a power system and / or power electronics focus, and strong experience in the area of power systems.
Strong knowledge of electrical engineering principles, specifically relating to electricity transmission, distribution and generation. Desirable to have experience with generator performance standards, generator technical performance, and / or generator operations.
Desirable to have knowledge of national electricity rules applicable to the performance requirements of generating systems.
Strong written and verbal communications skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
