Overview
As a Senior Solicitor in the Corporate and Construction team, you will provide timely legal advice and prepare contracts and advice for our clients, including senior executive members within the department and portfolio Ministers supported by the department. The Senior Solicitor will support various legal matters relating to the department's Service Agreement with funded community service organisations and assist with the implementation of the Fair Jobs Code for the Community Services Sector, including procurement and coordination of workplace mediators for disputes under the Code.
Your advice must be clear, accurate and appropriate to meeting the client’s needs. You will also assist in monitoring and reporting on the performance and quality of advice of contracted legal firms in meeting the department’s clients’ needs.
The Senior Solicitor role reports to one of the Managing Principal Solicitors in the Corporate and Construction Team and plays a key role in supporting less experienced staff.
Responsibilities
Provide timely legal advice and prepare contracts and advice for clients, including senior executives and Ministers.
Support matters related to the department’s Service Agreement with funded community service organisations.
Assist with the implementation of the Fair Jobs Code for the Community Services Sector, including procurement and coordination of workplace mediators for Code-related disputes.
Monitor and report on the performance and quality of advice provided by contracted legal firms.
Support the development and guidance of less experienced staff within the team.
Qualifications and requirements
Experience as a solicitor in corporate and construction matters (senior solicitor level preferred).
Ability to provide clear, accurate legal advice and draft contracts and counsel as required.
Ability to work with senior executives and Ministers and to coordinate with external contracted firms.
Experience in monitoring and reporting on legal service delivery.
