Job Description
Finance Manager – Commercial & Operational Focus
Finance Manager – Commercial & Operational Focus
Steel Frames WA is a high-performance, project-based manufacturing business supplying light gauge steel framing to many of Western Australia’s leading residential builders.
We are an owner-led, fast-moving business where decisions are made quickly and performance is reviewed weekly. As we continue to scale capacity, invest in equipment and secure larger contracts, we are seeking a commercially driven Finance Manager to take ownership of the finance function and partner directly with the Managing Directors.
This is not a back-office reporting role.
This role sits at the centre of commercial decision-making.
The Opportunity
You will work directly with the business owners and leadership team to provide the financial insight that drives:
Job and contract profitability
Cash flow and working capital performance
Pricing and margin discipline
Operational efficiency
You will see the impact of your decisions in the numbers within weeks — not quarters.
This role offers real influence in a business where finance is embedded in operations, not removed from it.
Key Responsibilities
Finance Leadership & Ownership
Lead and develop AP, AR and Payroll
Maintain integrity of financial reporting and systems
Deliver timely, commercially relevant monthly reporting
Strengthen processes and controls as the business scales
Commercial & Operational Finance
Provide real-time visibility of WIP and job profitability
Partner with operations to improve margin and productivity
Support pricing decisions through cost and profitability analysis
Lead financial modelling for equipment and growth initiatives
Review customer and supplier contracts for commercial viability
Cash Flow & Performance
Own the 13-week rolling cash flow forecast
Drive working capital performance and cash conversion
Lead budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis
Translate financial results into practical actions for leadership
Compliance & Governance
Oversee BAS, GST, PAYG, Super and statutory obligations
Manage year-end processes and external advisors
About You
You are commercially minded and outcomes focused. You enjoy being close to operations and influencing decision-making rather than simply producing reports.
You will bring:
Experience in construction, manufacturing, engineering or project-based environments
Strong job costing and WIP experience
Advanced Excel and financial modelling capability
Demonstrated leadership of a small finance team
Strong systems capability (ERP or equivalent)
You are comfortable in a high-accountability environment and motivated by performance and growth.
Why This Role Stands Out
Direct access to Managing Directors
Broad operational and strategic exposure
Ability to shape systems, processes and financial discipline
Clear growth pathway as the business scales
This is an opportunity for a commercially capable finance professional who wants more than month-end reporting and is motivated by ownership, visibility and long-term growth.
If you are ready to step into a role where your contribution directly impacts profitability and expansion, we welcome your application.
Your application will include the following questions:
Which of the following statements best describes your right to work in Australia?
How many years' experience do you have as a commercial manager?
