This is not a traditional “back-office” finance role. It’s a senior leadership appointment for a local government finance professional ready to operate at enterprise and executive level.

About the City of Armadale We are a fast-growing, diverse and ambitious local government entering our next phase. We’re seeking a Chief Financial Officer (internally titled Head of Finance) who brings strong local government credibility, sound judgement, and the leadership capability to shape how the City plans, invests and delivers for its community.

You will be a trusted advisor to the CEO, Executive Leadership Team and Elected Members, while leading a large finance function and strengthening financial capability across the organisation.

This role is ideally suited to an experienced senior finance leader who is ready to step into broader enterprise influence and potentially beyond.

About the Role As Chief Financial Officer (Head of Finance), you will lead a significant finance portfolio and play a central role in organisational decision‑making. This is a hands‑on, high‑impact leadership role where your influence extends well beyond finance.

You will

Lead and develop a high‑performing finance team, lifting capability, confidence and career pathways

Provide clear, practical financial advice to support confident decision‑making at Executive and Council level

Guide the organisation through its annual financial rhythm, including planning, budgeting, reporting and governance

Navigate complex local government revenue environments, including rates, waste services and cost‑recovery models

Improve and streamline financial processes to support a growing and evolving City

Play a key role in digital and system transformation, including implementation of the OneCouncil Property & Rates module and optimisation of existing systems

You will balance strong financial stewardship and compliance with a forward‑looking mindset, helping the City make sound decisions today while planning wisely for the future.

What You’ll Bring You are a senior local government finance leader who combines strategic thinking with practical delivery. You’re comfortable operating in complexity, calm under pressure, and understand that effective financial leadership is as much about people and influence as it is about numbers.

Your experience will include

Demonstrated experience leading financial strategy, planning and governance in a complex organisation

A strong understanding of local government financial frameworks

A practical, improvement‑focused mindset – you enjoy making things better, not just maintaining the status quo

Confidence engaging with senior leaders and Elected Members, translating complex information into clear, actionable advice

A collaborative leadership style and a genuine commitment to developing others

Experience delivering or optimising digital finance systems, or leading organisations through system change
