Job Description
Matter designs, builds and maintains exceptional environmental systems for sectors including waste, stormwater and emergency services.
Our products help communities live and work more safely, sustainably and efficiently across both developed and developing economies. After years of focused R&D, we’re now in an exciting growth phase, taking these products to the world and pioneering new markets.
We’re scaling quickly and looking for a
Senior Product Manager
who’s excited to shape the future of connected cities and physical AI —owning the experience from intelligent hardware in the field through to the software platforms that power it.
Our innovations today include:
LiveFlow
– early warning systems for flood management
Think OS
– embedded sensors and a platform designed around circular economy principles
Award‑winning hardware
combined with predictive analytics and AI‑driven work management tools
AR‑enhanced interfaces
that simplify field work and boost productivity
Automated sustainability reporting
that helps reduce emissions while maximising operational efficiency
Matter’s stablemate,
yStop , is a leader in smart street furniture and will launch a new range of connected, intelligent community infrastructure in 2026—powered by Matter technology.
Role Overview
As
Senior Product Manager , you’ll own the end-to-end lifecycle – from concept to sunset – for Matter IO (software and hardware) and the yStop suite of smart street furniture. This spans product development, pipeline planning, go‑to‑market strategy, and clear internal and external communication around product capabilities, updates and roadmaps.
You’ll partner with two dedicated teams to share ideation, development and delivery across our product portfolio. You’ll also help establish our new demo centre, lead client product introductions across the full suite and articulate our innovations to a wide range of stakeholders.
You’ll be fully supported at all levels, but this is a role with a strong project-management focus rather than deep technical build—so you’ll need to be highly organised and comfortable driving momentum. You won’t be coding but you will deeply own the product and delivery. Your project management will involve coordination and execution across teams, not just Gantt charts.
So this is a broad, hands‑on role in a scaling company where you’ll wear multiple hats across strategy, delivery, GTM and stakeholder engagement. You'll quickly understand (if not already) the ways of IoT, urban infrastructure and operational workflows, requiring both strategic thinking and hands‑on execution.
There is significant scope for advancement with a
path to Head of Product/founder‑level roles
with equity ownership.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and maintain the product vision and roadmap for Matter IO (hardware + software) and yStop street furniture
Translate company objectives into clear product goals, milestones and measurable outcomes
Build and maintain a structured product pipeline aligned to customer needs, market trends and operational constraints
Ensure product strategy leverages our extensive IP portfolio (global patents, trademarks and design registrations).
Identify product expansion opportunities, new features, hardware iterations, and scalable system improvements
Product Development & Delivery
Lead two cross‑functional teams supporting ideation, development and delivery across the product lifecycle
Work closely with engineering, hardware design, data and operations teams to deliver high‑quality product updates
Write detailed product requirements, user stories, specifications, and acceptance criteria
Lead cross‑functional sprint planning, backlog prioritisation, and development workflows
Ensure Matter IO devices, sensors, and yStop assets integrate cleanly with Think OS, LiveFlow, and just‑in‑time (JIT) collection systems
Coordinate field testing, hardware trials, QA, and deployment timelines
Integrate predictive analytics and AI capabilities into product development cycles where they add clear value
Go-to-Market & Marketing
Develop value propositions, messaging and positioning for all Matter and yStop products
Support sales and partnerships with product collateral, pitch decks, technical documentation and specifications
Lead the creation of product launch plans, feature announcements, marketing assets and customer updates
Work closely with Marketing to translate technical features into compelling user‑facing stories that highlight world‑first innovations and life‑saving capabilities
Customer, Partner & Stakeholder Engagement
Serve as a central point of contact for all product questions—internally and externally
Collaborate with key clients, councils, partners, and contractors to gather insights and refine product direction
Conduct product demos, training sessions and post‑deployment reviews
Help manage client product introductions across the full lifecycle
Support the setup and operation of our new demo centre
Champion customer needs and ensure the product experience is intuitive and impactful
Internal Communication & Enablement
Maintain clear communication across engineering, operations, marketing, and leadership
Produce product updates, roadmaps, release notes, internal FAQs, and training materials
Ensure internal teams have the knowledge, resources, and confidence to speak about our category‑leading products and their unique value
Product Performance & Analytics
Monitor product usage, device health, sensor performance, and operational efficiency metrics
Analyse data from Think OS, LiveFlow, and in‑field assets to identify improvement opportunities
Coordinate A/B testing, hardware iterations, and feature optimisation
Leverage predictive analytics to drive product enhancements
Provide reporting on product adoption, efficiency outcomes, customer ROI and safety impact
Key Skills & Experience
3–7 years experience in Product Management or related roles
(hardware + software experience strongly preferred)
Proven ability to work with cross‑functional teams across engineering, hardware, design and operations
Strong understanding of IoT systems, embedded devices and/or public infrastructure highly desirable
Experience in urban tech, environmental services, mobility or similar domains is a plus
Excellent communication, stakeholder management and structured documentation skills
Ability to balance long‑term vision with immediate delivery needs
Comfortable working in a fast‑paced, scaling startup environment
You must be a permanent resident or citizen of Australia for this position
Above all, you're curious and ready for an adaptable, iterative environment.
Traits That Will Help You Succeed
Systems thinker with a bias for action
Able to translate complex technical challenges into simple, clear concepts
Curious, resourceful, hands‑on and unafraid of field testing
Comfortable moving between hardware constraints and software UX
Passionate about sustainability, public place innovation and world‑scale impact
What We Offer
Opportunity to shape the core products of a rapidly scaling Australian clean‑tech company
Ownership across software, hardware and the future of smart street infrastructure
Leadership of two teams supporting ideation, development, and delivery
Significant opportunity for advancement including potential to become a founder of new entities with equity ownership
A dynamic, forward‑thinking environment where development is underpinned by strategic and extensive IP, including worldwide patents, trademarks, and design registrations
Flexible work environment with autonomy and trust
A mission‑driven team dedicated to reducing waste, emissions, and urban inefficiencies
The chance to work on category‑leading, world‑first products that help communities and can save lives
