Principal Solutions Engineer
As the Principal Solutions Engineer, you’ll be the technical bridge between product owners, architects, and platform engineers, delivering secure, scalable, and cost‑optimized solutions across AWS, on‑premises (VMware), and Azure environments. You’ll set technical direction, define standards, and mentor others, ensuring our platform services meet business needs for functionality, cost, and time.
This role is a 24‑month fixed‑term contract, onsite based out of our HQ in Essendon Fields (VIC).
Responsibilities
Leading the design and delivery of advanced AWS platform services (compute, storage, networking, identity, security)
Defining and deploying solutions across hybrid and multi‑cloud environments
Developing AWS reference architectures, standards, and patterns
Acting as technical lead for AWS projects, guiding automation and best practices
Implementing cost optimization and compliance strategies
Providing 24x7 support on a roster for critical platform and cloud services
Performing lifecycle management (OS upgrades, patching, resource optimization)
Collaborating with product owners and architects to align technical roadmaps
Mentoring and upskilling junior team members in AWS and hybrid cloud technologies
Qualifications
Tertiary qualifications in IT or related discipline
AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional or AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional (preferred)
Extensive hands‑on experience designing, implementing, and operating AWS services (EC2, ECS/EKS, RDS, S3, Lambda) in enterprise‑scale environments
Strong DevOps background (CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, container orchestration)
7+ years’ experience with server/infrastructure technologies (VMware, Windows/Linux, Exchange, Active Directory, Storage, Backup)
Proven ability to architect secure, scalable, and cost‑optimized solutions
Experience integrating AWS with hybrid/multi‑cloud platforms (VMware, Azure)
Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder engagement skills
